Christopher Columbus Statue Is To Be Removed From Chicago’s Grant Park

Just the beginning of collective repentance for the crimes of European settlers against Native American populations or a primitive "lightning rod" of the accumulated social protest?

Mayor Lori Lightfoot is planning to remove the controversial statue of Christopher Columbus from Chicago’s Grant Park as soon as Thursday night, in part to avoid another high-profile confrontation between police and protesters like the one that happened last week.

Protesters marched downtown last Friday then headed into Grant Park where a group of individuals attempted to take down the statue, similar to what’s happened in other cities across the country.

Chaos followed the protest as officers and demonstrators clashed around the statue. At least 20 complaints of police brutality were filed against Chicago cops, including one involving activist Miracle Boyd, who said she was hit in the face by a police officer during the skirmish in Grant Park, knocking out at least one of her teeth.

Chicago's statues of Columbus have become a heated controversy for Lightfoot, who has rejected calls to bring down monuments honoring Columbus.
She also has rejected calls to rename the Columbus Day holiday.

When you give into the mob, they don't take the victory and leave, they find the next thing to rabble rouse about.
You mean like burning down federal courthouses?

Who burned down federal courthouses?

Come on, Lakhota! Anarchists in Portland have been trying to torch the Federal Courthouse there for the past week! Do you not watch the news? Or is it only CNN?
You think he watches news that reports news? Or what he wants to hear ha
I don't know what he watches but he doesn't have a clue what's going in Portland...that's for damn sure! LOL

Fuck you prick. You're not even Native American. Picture in 1968 of communist protesters defiling statues in Grant Park with NVA flags until heroes of law enforcement kicked them off. In highschool I joined Illinois National Guard to fight communist and get scholarship $$$. Boot camp one year, AIT next year. Well after graduation we had to go back to AIT. Had a layover in Chicago MEPPS which was right across from Grant Park. We were all in class A's and climbed the statutes for a picture. Completely different (Reagan) from today. We fought communist then as young people. Different after 25 years of communist indoctrination by education system, media, and Hollywood. In Marines later in Middle East and Asia. But I won't forget that day in Chicago when young people were still patriot's.

Christopher Columbus never saw America.

I don't understand single-line comments. But one thing is clear: BLM got out of control of its "curators" and turned against them, more and more manifesting its anti-Semitic orientation.

Let's be honest, you guy back far enough and human beings were all evil bastards, if they were of any significance. We can't change history, it is what it is, even if you try to replace it like some communist, next generations will find the answers.

Ultimately, all of this effort is to erase the U.S from history. Your Constitution will follow eventually, it has to in order for America to not be America. Even the Russians didn't go this far with their hatred of America.

Fine, then put all that evil/racist Columbus and Confederate shit in a museum. Out of sight so people don't have to see that evil/racist shit everyday. And also teach the TRUTH in our schools.

Our children will not be told the truth as long as one social group controls education. And this group of the population considers the destruction of 100 million Indians who chose to commit suicide, but not become slaves, as something of the order of things since they were not considered and still are not considered human

Would you please define "communism" and "communists"? After all, there is a possibility that you fought against ghosts or "burned out" the idea of equality with napalm in Vietnam. Or ... in Iraq

You understand what was written very well. It has been a white racist tradition to try discrediting non white who challenge white supremacy.

Columbus was an evil bastard.

Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Castro, Chavez, all your Progressive heroes were far worse

Ya know stautes belong in museums that either need to be controlled by progressive retards ....or burnt to the ground ....for inclusivity I think

It's wonderful news that the statue of Columbus is finally coming down in Chicago.

That is exactly what the young, sweet, sensitive young gentlemen of certain Chicago neighborhoods have been demanding all along.

So we can now expect a deep drop in the number of murders in the Windy City.
