I have been thinking about going back school to study something. I am hoping you guys can give me some good suggestions.

What I like to do: I enjoy reading, writing, learning, and interacting with people, especially online. Stuff I like to read about: philosophy, English, Christianity, politics. I don't know if there are jobs that allow me to just read a lot and get paid. The only thing I can think of is a university professor but honestly I think that's out of reach for me.

I am not looking to get rich, as long as I make enough money to live on, I am happy. Maybe you can recommend me some degree programs? Maybe drop me a link here so I can check it out? Maybe there are things out there that I haven't considered.

Thank you

Thanks to all.

Regarding the book restoration specialist, it's very interesting. I didn't know such a thing existed.

Oh, follow-up question: you guys probably have no idea, but I am just wondering, is it very expensive for a Canadian to study in the US? I know that in my country (Canada), the tuition fees for international students are much higher than those for domestic students. I don't know if its the same for Canadians in the US. Technically Canadians are international to US schools, but then again, it's Canada. Would love some input, thanks.

It's much more expensive for out of state students in the US.

Learn to use AI to create software. You don't need to be a programmer. You don't need to know math. You just need to know what you want, and be able to describe it clearly.

But don't kid yourself, that's the hardest part of software development.

Thanks to all.

It is outrageously expensive to go to college in the US and you wouldn't be allowed to work in the US on a student visa; and the only reason I thought about the book restoration thing is because a friend was bitching recently that they paid to go see the Book of Kells and most of the 200,000 other books in that long-ass library were gone because they were off being restored so they felt like they should have at least gotten their tickets at a discount

You sound like a nice person who could very easily bury himself in hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. Why do you not want to study in Canada? Just curious.

I see. I didn't know that people could not work on a student Visa in the US. I think that here they can, but it's only for 20 hours a week. And they have to have special permission from their school.

Get a MA in English and 18 graduate credits in history and another 18 in econ.

Teach at a junior or community college. You should have a tenure-track position within two years of completing the above. Teach adjunct until then.

Thanks for the advice, however I am afraid I don't like public speaking.

Technically here you can if you get approval but it has to be 20 hours a week on your campus or within your field of study and that won't be nearly enough to cover even your living expenses, let alone your tuition. A Canadian I knew did it and when he went home for Christmas he was not allowed back into the US when he was trying to come back even though it was in his field of study because he had worked too many hours.

Go to a vocational school. You can read all you want as a hobby.

A liberal arts degree is a great way to go into massive debt for a job that pays $20/hour
