Seems to be the day for "wow" videos. Here's another one. It shows where the Chinese fishing boats were in the last few days. You have to watch this, it's remarkable.

This is Mr Xi's response to Trump.

China has total control over its individuals.

The US doesn't.

Totally laughable they would attempt anything this archaic. The law of gross tonnage applies when they do not follow the rules of the road. We would simply run these assholes over, and we might have to spend a little money on paint for the scratches on the bow. The 5 in guns work wonders on those pesky little ships, one shot and they are at the bottom.

From your article:
The masses of the smaller boats could also act “as missile and torpedo decoys, overwhelming radars or drone sensors with too many targets,” said Thomas Shugart, a former U.S. naval officer now at the Center for a New American Security.

This quoted ignoramus has to be the dumbest naval officer in history because he doesn't know how our weapons systems operate. Fishing boats would not have the same profile as warships and the submarines would identify them before shooting a decoy. We have 80 years experience in naval warfare after World War II. The Chinese have zero!

The concept of a swarm applies to more than just drones.

Think about what happened here. These are fishermen. They work hard for a living. Most of them don't have retirement accounts.

So here comes Chairman Xi, says "drop what you're doing, I need you elsewhere". And they do.

The chairman just cost them a week's worth of fish.

Only if I can get through NYT's paywall, no thanks. I'll wait for others to release the story.
I am waiting for the flurry of spam in my email because I used my email to sign up to watch the video. Now I wish I had not. The article was a joke written by hacks that know nothing about maritime issues or weapons systems.

I don't know why you guys keep talking about a paywall. I can see the video just fine and I haven't given NYT a penny (nor would I).

I'm on an Android most of the time, and for me the video appears on top and below it says "Read More".

Synchronized dance with fishing boats.

Lots of these boats belong to the Chinese military and the crew are servicemen. This is their pretext for invading Taiwan, trying to gain more reefs that belong to the Philippines, or stealing the islands from Japan. They know US would not fire upon fishing boat but at the same time, they are not stupid enough to test that assumption that Philippines and Japan won’t. China knows that if their navy fire at both parties, the US would get involved. China loves to push the boundary but always stop short when it counts.

When you follow you link it takes you to a page with a popup indicating a paywall. To get past it you have to enter your email address and you can sign up for a subscription for various times. One choice allows you to view the selected article only. I had to provide my email to access it. I predict I will receive tons for spam from the NY Slime and them selling my email address to scammers.

Obviously then at some point in the past, you've given NYT some personal information, created an account with them, which is what they are collecting, not money.

NYT already has you in their database. I don't surrender personal info, least of all to NYT, just to read some article which is probably half fake news anyway.

Do you not have access to a map and failed geography? Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines are scattered over millions of square miles of ocean and not located near each other!

Where were you in August of last year:
Two of China's ships collided after they attempted to interfere with a Philippine Coast Guard ship.

What you believe China’s end game is with thousands of boats scattered all over that region?

Seriously Scruff, when I see a link to anything connected to NYT, I don't even try to open it because of their constant, inescapable harassment and pursuit of my surrendering personal info just to read one of their articles.

This time however, the story has not spread out yet where anyone else is covering it yet, otherwise I would have offered an alternate paywall free site.

The fact that NYT is printing it gives me pause to wonder if the story is even true.

15th post
No, I can't
???

I'm mystified.

I don't ever recall creating an account with NYT.

If I did, it must have been a long time ago and I must have been very drunk! :p

Well, its a sure bet Scruff that if they aren't pinging you for a password or email, that they must already have something.

The other day I got a call from a guy offering to remove snow that I don't remember ever contacting in the first place to ask.
