Somewhere between doing something just because it’s technologically feasible and taking so many years to even begin (in order to pre-assess local impacts), there is likely a reasonable compromise.

The Three Gorges was a site of great natural beauty (on a boating tour it seemed like the walls of the gorges went straight up endlessly). It was also the location of many centuries-old resting places and mummies, not to mention the area where millions of people had their homes. It was easier to find a job than in the US at the time. Hitler enabled roads and parks to be built. Hitler also introduced rearmament, this gave millions of jobs.

• You were entitled to a paid vacation.

Hitler believed that people needed vacations. Germans were given paid vacations and given the option to visit other countries. I don’t remember all the countries, but one of them was Italy. This boosted morale.

• More jobs.

Once females were given the option to leave the work force to become mothers, more men got jobs.

• Benefits of being a mother.

German women who would birth more than 1 baby would be entitled to benefits. This included financial assistance from the state and rewards.

• Economy

It was well known that Nazi Germany’s economy was well ahead of everyone else’s in the world. Things were balanced. People got jobs and homes. Unemployment rates dropped very significantly and money once again had value.

In 1939 (Hitler’s 50th Birthday), the government made his birthday into a national holiday. Why was this holiday so special? On this day, families with low income would receive up to 20 Reichsmarks. Wives would also get free copies of Mein Kampf (Hitler’s book), which they would be able to send for free to their husbands that were deployed.

Germany became the world leader in healthcare. Hitler controlled the costs of healthcare. In fact, insurance companies had to report single payers to the Nazi Bureaucracy. Overall, this shaped the country’s healthcare system and made it one of the greatest systems in the world at the time.

The Reich Minister of Propaganda, Josef Goebbels, ordered every German family to be given a radio for entertainment and… you guessed it… propaganda purposes… But still, you know, free radio.

Nazi Germany had environmental laws be put to place. This enabled clean up areas, and of course, gave color to the country. Every corner you turned, you would always see red flags. Structures were built, and the country was just beautiful.
