What is hand sanitizer anyway?

It's jellied grain alcohol, ethanol, which is safe until some crook decides to use methanol or wood alcohol to make the sanitizer. It is poisonous when absorbed through the skin and can cause blindness.

An additional three people are in critical condition. "All seven people are believed to have drunk hand sanitizer containing methanol," health officials said.
