Cars, coffee and clothing are poised to get pricier with new tariffs

"It's the economy, stupid."

This is going to come back to bite the GOP in the midterms. People vote with their purse. Harris's loss is largely attributed to the people's vote of no confidence in the Biden administration's handling of the economy.

Americans are paying more for appliances, home furnishings, toys and shoes than they were a few months ago, and they could soon face higher prices on more goods as the Trump administration’s latest round of sharper tariffs kicks in.

The newest round of duties took effect at midnight Thursday, lifting the average U.S. tariff rate to its highest level since the Great Depression. The move solidifies the president’s trade policy after months of negotiations, meaning more manufacturers and retailers are expected to begin raising prices in short order.

Coffee’s already double what it was just a little while ago

If the economy does go south, Trump and the flock will blame Powell for not lowering interest rates.

Which is spectacularly ignorant, of course, since Powell is too justifiably concerned with tariff-driven inflation to drop rates. That's what's holding this up.

But they can't blame their ignorant Dear Leader, so that will probably be the game.

That won't matter though. People want results not excuses.

TBF, they voted for this. They knew it was coming.

Damn...less a miracle...the shoe industry is going down like a rock! Footwear Retailers with them!

Trump was blamed for the covid disaster. He’ll get blamed for any recession. That I am sure of. Only 1-2% of people need to change their vote for the midterms to be a disaster for the republicans.

The policy of pressuring and coercing other countries into accepting abusive tariffs, even when America runs a trade surplus in the relationship, as is the case with Brazil, may even work with some countries in the short term, considering the disproportionate economic weight that imports and exports to the American nation carry for a number of countries around the world.

But in the medium and long term, it may backfire, undermining global trust in America as a reliable trading partner, driving nations to pursue trade relationships elsewhere.

I've been saving my grocery receipts for a couple months now.

I have not yet done a comparison between then and now.

But meat prices are at a record high.

In MAGA world, egg prices were Biden's fault, but the jackals will find a way to not blame Trump for their meat.

I hope it tastes bitter. If they can afford it, that is.

Good real core Americans are just fine with a price hike while they figure out how to shop differently as long as Mexico’s people are being eradicated and no more are traversing our border.

Some want America to bend their knee, others are pretending to defend America, putting their cult above their nation.

China is laughing and waiting for the weak and obedient to return to power.
There is no better combination of Chinese servants than Musk and Trump.

None.

Musk and Trump abandoned our soft power around the world. Unilaterally and voluntarily gave it up.

Now China will fill the vacuum they left behind.

Musk and Trump's USAID talking points were right out of the CCP's playbook. Identical rhetoric.

As a recipient of billions of dollars of CCP subsidies and favorable CCP loan terms, Musk repaid that debt in full by destroying USAID.

Trump is making America irrelevant on the world stage.

Isolationism is ******* stupid. Just ask Charles Lindbergh where his brand of "America First" isolationism got us.

Send balloons to record Americas land and military locations
Because Chinese satellites can't do that. Right, retard? :auiqs.jpg:

Because they don't already know where our bases are. Right, retard?

Jesus. Your propagandists don't even have to make an effort any more.

Recent crops have not been as excellent. You can promote the tariffs all you want. the boneheaded legislation from the Progressives in Joe's first two years in office caused a lot of pain. And it continues. Eggs, chickens and beef had issues also. There must be a limit on what people will pay for coffee though.

I’m starting to see Dont Taz Me Bro as less of a genuine poster and more of a content creator/influencer….Good job dude, way to drive traffic.
NOW…if you could just keep that other guy from moving good content from the main board.

Gas in my AO is $2.77.....That is what people really see and they see and can keep track of it daily.

They see hopeful signs with Trump and are willing to give him a chance.....All they saw with FJB/dems was continued hopelessness year after year.

Don't think people don't notice the fewer number of Hispanics around either since ICE has been chasing them about. I haven't seen nary a Hispanic at the DMV for a month.

The POINT of tariffs is to make certain products more expensive to move consumers to buy products not under tariff, or less tariffs.

Also, move production to the USA and tariffs are avoided.

BMW has a factory in South Carolina.

Man, that short little period was just breathtaking to watch.

80 years of building it, gone in just weeks. Right before our eyes. Poof.

I'll never forget that. Now we're a global problem. China is pleased.

It's an addictive product, like the alcohol in beer, or the nicotine in cigarettes, it is the caffeine in coffee... it will be harder to quit, though I did hear hot tea has caffeine too so maybe we could be weaned off coffee? :)

My husband and I began stocking up on coffee about 5 years ago during COVID, when prices began going up and up from allegedly... droughts....I thought?

If shit ever hits the fan, coffee is a good bartering item!😁. Though...I'd likely never trade it!!!!

Shoes are addictive!😁 I don't know what the addictive ingredient is, but none the less, they are still addictive! We import 2 BILLION pairs of shoes a year, the last time I looked!

The USA has manufacturing capabilities to produce about 2 million pairs a year. Retailers have no one to purchase shoes made in the USA from... brand wholesellers have no manufacturers to make their shoes in the USA...

Can Americans with money create footwear manufacturing plants here in America again....? Yes! But it could take a decade or 2, to rebuild the whole of the shoe manufacturing industry here, in a profitable manner for the stock holders! (There is a lot involved).

Bottom line ...whether Foreign Tariffs or Made in America....shoes will cost us much more....the consumer much more! We are the end user....the ones who take the hit!

You seem to assume that Trumpfy is unaware of the obvious.
Why?

If your real objective is a Re-Set of the financial system , you first drive down the value of the dollar .
And one obvious way among several to achieve that is to create increased inflation .

If later you revalue the asset value of the owned Gold Reserves ( allegedly own ! ) and de-restrict all mineral reserve development work , you reduce debt by upward of $200 trillion .

NOW that's what Accounting is all about .
Let's hope Trumpfy has picked-up on this---otherwise the Empire collapses .

I don't quite understand why certain people can't deal with a bit of inconvenience in their lives. This idea that we're 'programmed' because we support the tariffs is a pretty cynical and stand-offish attitude.

Tell you what, when you have no place to live, nothing to eat, no clothes to wear, no basic amenities in life, you can complain about paying more for something.

If you can still afford it, then why are you complaining about it?

Furthermore, as a good deal of you are laymen, I find it rich that you're armchair quarterbacking our economic policies without looking at the raw micro and macroeconomic data.

Gosh. Some of you act like children whose parents made the decision to cut the candy and pile on the veggies. It's quite immature, you act like you haven't made a hard decision in your lives before (even though I know some of you have).

So now the Trumpsters are okay with increasing inflation.

This is a cult.
Of course. When you put a car in the shop, you don't expect to have the work done for free, do you?

People who prefer to maintain the status quo in our economy are just as dangerous as you claim those who are in a 'cult' are.

Might I add how petulant and snobbish you sound? If anyone really wanted to agree with you, your attitude would drive most of them off. And no, you don't need a sharp tongue to sound like a jerk.
