Capitol riot defendant will plead guilty, cooperate with government

He's sending a message that he's sorry for his actions and that will be considered by the prosecution when sentences are handed down..

If he’s so sorry about it then he never really believed in the action to begin with and he’s a hypocrite. Hopefully those he turns on properly.punish him for his cowardice.
The point is that none of them demonstrated any real commitment to their course of action, and thus made fools of themselves. Real revolutionaries such as Comrad Che or Comrad Fidel didn't sit around with their feet up on desks, dressed in furs and cow horns.

If they had any real will to find Nancy or Pence, they would have found them fairly easily considering the number of people they had to search for them.

I think that is probably the best defense they can use against the charges. It was all play and just for fun.
Even though that will require them to discredit themselves as nothing but comedians who were out for a good time.

What do you think? Nobody seems to want to entertain that idea so far.

Real revolutionaries would have made sure that there wer numerous govenment officials dead on the floor of the Capitol, with real blood flowing down the stairs and out the doors!

I think they’re wannabes. They had no real plan. No equipment. No tactics. No true intestinal fortitude. They need to be laughed at and ridiculed by everyone... especially those of us who would truly like to have seen the building burned down and corpses out on the Mall.

Did all those Progressive Socialist women who protested Trump and protested the Supreme Court judges that defaced monuments and went into buildings get charged for their insurrection?
Try to organize your thoughts and then don't hesitate to use more than one sentence to express your feelings.

You've got yourself trying to say that supreme court judges defaced monuments.

Capitol riot defendant will plead guilty, cooperate with government

Schaffer, a heavy metal guitarist and self-described "lifetime member" of the Oath Keepers, will become the first Capitol rioter to plead guilty to charges based on his participation in the attack and will enter into a cooperation agreement with the government. The move from Schaffer came at an unannounced proceeding before U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta on Friday morning. Mehta acknowledged that the deal included a cooperation agreement. As part of the agreement, the Justice Department has agreed to sponsor Schaffer for the witness protection program.
Schaffer, who was seen on camera deploying chemical spray at officers, will plead guilty to charges that he obstructed Congress' effort to certify the 2020 election results and that he unlawfully entered a restricted building.

The plea negotiations with prosecutors and Schaffer were inadvertently disclosed earlier this month, when a sealed Justice Department filing was accidentally posted on the public docket.
“The government’s ongoing plea negotiations with this defendant are the first and most advanced plea negotiations involving any of the over 300 Capitol Riot defendants,” prosecutors wrote in the April 5 filing.
The implication of Schaffer's plea are not immediately clear. Prosecutors have charged a dozen members of the Oath Keepers with conspiring to stop Congress' certification of the 2020 election on Jan. 6. But there's been little public evidence of Schaffer's connection to those defendants so far. The Oath Keepers case, though, is among the highest-profile to emerge from the Capitol assault, when thousands of Donald Trump supporters descended on the Capitol, overwhelming — and in many cases assaulting — police officers. Hundreds of pro-Trump rioters breached the building, sending lawmakers and then-Vice President Mike Pence fleeing for safety.

Several of the Oath Keepers were part of a security detail that guarded longtime Donald Trump associate Roger Stone, who has denied any knowledge of the group's incursion on the Capitol. The government has also produced hundreds of private messages the Oath Keepers exchanged discussing their plans for attending Trump's Jan. 6 "Stop the Steal" rally and to provide security to certain attendees. Prosecutors contend their messages suggest the group was preparing for violence that day, and they've continued to reveal evidence that the Oath Keepers amassed a stockpile of firearms in the Virginia suburbs ahead of the Capitol incursion.
Let's see how he likes a few Felonies around his neck....and a couple years in jail....maybe trump will come to his rescue.....NOT!....

How did "fight like Hell" turn out for him?
Not how it's going to work for him..no jail and an entire new life paid for by...guess who?
Then he better roll on lots of people.

How’s about MAGgAts are too dumb and lazy to put up a fight. They thought they could march right in and take the Capitol and the whole country.

For a bunch of gun toting morons you’d think they’d actually use their guns, but no they only use them to look tough in selfies and kill innocent people in mass shootings

Nah. The MAGA/Trump crowd really aren’t Conservatives. They’re largely populists and attention seekers.

True Conservatives like myself would have shown up with a plan and attacked while all the attention was down at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Yes, as revolutions go, it was a comedy of errors.
But it sent an important message from American working people that they've just about had enough of the American way ripping them off.

In that sense, magats could prove to be a blessing.

There was a lot of planning went into it and that's going to get them in the end.
GOP congress men and women? That's the ones who will be taken seriously by the authorities.

The scale of the punishment will be mostly dependent on the political climate being greatly opposed to Trump. That's probably coming.

On topic, assuming I understand the intent of the OP: There will be a long string of 'guilty' pleas and plea bargaining.

On a bright note, it all promises to be an opportunity for those charged to air their grievances that 'led' them to violence.

They had valid reasons!

More about that for anyone who has an interest in turning this into a discussion.

You could not be more wrong. There will be no chance whatsoever for these people to "air" anything other than a guilty or not guilty plea.

If your daughter comes home late and tells you she was raped, and you go out and beat up the guy she claimed raped her, the judge isn't going to let you off because your daughter lied to you, because regardless of her lie, what you did was illegal.

Donald Trump has never won an election. He played the system. He won the nomination, by getting more votes than any of the other 16 Republican candidates, winning all of the states delegates with only 15% of the votes. 85% of Republican voters wanted someone else, but they could not agree on who that would be.

He lost the popular election in 2016, but managed to poison the blue collar male electorate in enough swing states against Hillary Clinton to let him claim the electoral college and become President. He lost the midterm elections by the widest margin in recent history, and the House. He lost the White House and Senate in 2020.

Why would any reasonable person ever believe he won the 2020 election, given the failure of his economic policies, the mess he created at the Southern Border, 8 million Americans falling into poverty, race riots, mass shootings, half a million dead from covid and his obsequience and ass kissing of dictators and murderers around the world?

I agree with pretty well everything you said there except your first sentence, and that happens to be the bit that was on topic. The reason why I disagree with that is in the seriousness of their crimes. The law will be going for maybe one or two 20 year sentences at most, a couple of 5 year sentences, and a string of community service sweeping sidewalks or whatever. I would suggest that it should be more like minimum ten years for all that entered the Capitol. That explains why we disagree.

And then fwiw, I disagree in part with the final bit:
his obsequience and ass kissing of dictators and murderers around the world?

That submission requires some substantiating. In many cases Americans' murderers and dictators are the rest of the world's normal and decent people.

I can't allow you the suggestion without an explanation.
