In reality, those 3 cops abandon their position as 4 others, who were better equipped, are coming up. The gun isn't even spotted for about 20 seconds after the 3 cops walked away from the doors.

There were still lawmakers just feet away in the House chamber as that mob began violently breaking through the doors and windows. She was the first one to lead the charge as she attempted to get over the police barricade on the other side. If she wasn't stopped, the rest of the mob behind her would have stormed into the House chamber.

Although Asli was unarmed, one police officer died and more than 150 were injured, some of them seriously, and two officers committed suicide due to PTSD in the wake of the attacks, so the officer can very reasonable say that he feared for his life and for the lives of those people in the Senate Chamber.
