I doubt you can dispute anything Sheryl said. Her short segment on astroturfing from years ago is still 100% true today.
your response piqued my curiosity. So I read her piece (i don’t rely on video).
She correctly defined astroturf.
The rest of it was a textbook discussion on how right wing media works, especially the Trump machine.
As for the real definition; fakecgrass roots organizations that are actually fronts for powerful corporat interests and often run by lobbyists, she says very little.
Her “whatcto watch for” can be seen every day in conservative posts on platforms like this. They buy, spread, repeat and defend the lies and misleading vclaims to an uncritical and not well informed audience.
The biggest astroturf groups of them all were the various groups that comprised the “area party” campaign. Nearly all of the groups were run out of K Street lobby shops.
if you really want to spot astroturf, forget Sheryl Atkissan‘s silly guidelines.
Instead, find out whether the story is true. Check multiple sources (another just right wing trash blogs that crib one another’s fake news)
Find out who the poster, or the person/organization doing the talking is.
Find out who they are working for. Which will tell you the real agenda.
ALWAYS follow the money!
