Yo, President Trump, Canada needs immediate liberation from their "free" healthcare system.

And the practice is growing more and more popular each year.
At the time of the report, new MAID deaths were coming in at a rate of 45 per day; the annual number of deaths charted in 2024 came to 16,499. Thus, even if MAID approvals have plateaued in the interim months, Canada would be on track to pass its 100,000th MAID death by the first week of June.
This would be only a couple weeks shy of June 17, when Canada will mark the 10th anniversary of the passage of Bill C-14, the Act of Parliament which first legalized doctor-assisted suicide.
Commentary:
Euthanasia now accounts for 4.7% of all deaths in the country, a rate second only to the Netherlands. Euthanasia is now the fifth most common.
State sponsored Euthanasia kills more people than criminals do in Canada.
When I first read the headlines I thought it was satirical. I was Wrong.
This has become an evil, slippery downhill slope once it was initiated.
I'm sure that the Ottawa gov't will eventually use it to euthanatize their political opponents....just a matter of time.
Is it any wonder why Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia are seeking to secede?
It's also surprising that Democrats and their Commie DSA counterparts haven't tried to pass laws similar to this on the U.S.

Ok, I'm gonna say it.
Dogs are better people than most humans, so there is a bright side to this information.
Mama told me to always look on the bright side....

My dad says after each slow agonizing death he sees in America, "why can't they just give the a pill that puts them to sleep? Why do they have to suffer?"

My brothers father in law is taking MONTHS to die. It's getting painful now. I would have given him that pill last Saturday. He's still dying and suffering. Canadians are FREE to choose this? Now that's freedom.

Can't do this in America, can't watch porn, can't get an abortion. You're free?

Oh, and in America 2 months will bankrupt most of yall. My brother can afford the $25 hr.

What does IM2 say about this?
What do you say about it Libertarian?

Libertarians generally support the right to voluntary euthanasia and assisted suicide, viewing them as matters of individual autonomy, bodily self-ownership, and personal freedom. They argue that individuals should have the liberty to make their own end-of-life decisions, including terminating life in cases of incurable, painful, or non-desirable conditions.

Euthanasia, legally termed Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), has been legal in Canada since 2016 for eligible adults with grievous and irremediable medical conditions.

Legal

Euthanasia in Canada became legal following the Supreme Court ruling in Carter v. Canada (2015), which found that prohibiting assisted death violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms for adults with grievous and irremediable medical conditions. Parliament passed legislation in June 2016 to regulate MAID, initially limiting access to those whose natural death was reasonably foreseeable. In March 2021, Bill C-7 amended the law to include individuals with serious conditions whose death was not reasonably foreseeable, expanding eligibility.

Eligibility

To request MAID in Canada, a person must:
  • Be an adult eligible for Canadian healthcare coverage.

  • Have a grievous and irremediable medical condition, which may include illness, disease, or disability causing enduring and intolerable suffering.

  • Be capable of making healthcare decisions independently, and the request must be voluntary, free from external pressure.

  • Undergo assessments by a physician or nurse practitioner, who ensures all legal safeguards are met.

Currently, individuals whose sole condition is a mental illness are not eligible until March 17, 2027, though this delay is subject to legal challenges.

What about the 95.3 percent of deaths that are not from Euthanasia?

Do the research. People being accepted to MAID because they are poor. Others who fought for Canada and suffer from PTSD, others against their will since someone has power of attorney over them.

I saw a post on twitter that said that you are 3x more likely to be killed via MAID in Canada than by a gun in the U.S

Where do you guys stand on this issue?

1. I'm pretty sure that's right wing BULLSHIT.

2. Then don't allow it to happen to the poor or against their will. But don't throw the baby out with the bath water. What you are going to do is not allow people who are suffering to do it. Piss off with the 1% times it happened because someone was "poor".

3. I'm much more open today to allowing people to kill themselves for being in MENTAL pain not just physical pain. Who am I? Who are WE to judge someone's pain. If you want to end your life, who am I to judge you? While I wouldn't give them doctor assisted suicide, I don't look down on them as much as I used to. Because I have empathy for other people. I've also had such bad pain that I told myself "oh my god could you imagine 24 hours of that? I might kill myself if that much pain never ended".

And YOU would stop me? You would make me suffer? F you!!!

People can do as they please. The state should not be offering death simply because someone is poor. The poor policies of multiple governments at different levels have contributed to the poverty.

Also, do the research of the demographics of those being murdered. Americans are too naive and unconcerned. This warped ideology of covert police state and encouraging death will spread south...you are not immune...

The timing and irony in the "active topics" section can be hilarious!

Anywhere socialism exists there is genocide.

Now it is the genocide of the mentally ill and unfit. much how like the National Socialists cleared out hospitals of all the folks that were a drain on his precious Third Reich.

Oh no we got all this bullshit lies in the 2000's. Dude, you're like 20 years behind us. OH the sanctity of life

Remember her? Republicans wouldn't let her husband pull the freakin plug

And we weren't allowed to do stem cell research. Because of the sanctity of life. Only when Ronald Reagan got Alzheimers did Nancy Reagan support stem cell research. So it has to happen to one of their own before they have empathy.

So people with terminal illnesses are allowed to die with dignity
I know horrible right?

In America, you suffer in your bed for days, weeks maybe months on hospice. The nurse dolls out your morphine but only after she hears you suffering. And she never gives enough. Shits expensive. Too much would kill the patient.

I remember they said that to me with my grandfather. He was saying OWWW and I said "give him another shot of morphine" and she said "but it'll kill him" and I said "yea so?" and with that approval, she gave him a nice dose of morphine. He relaxed and died. Thank GOD. That took over a week. Sad.

Let me explain to you the SPIN you are listening to on POOR PEOPLE being killed.

So my mom needed to find a place to take her. Alzheimers. BAD. The most expensive. I know there are cheaper places but we needed to find a place that takes medicaid. Lawyer told us he would get us on medicaid. But the first month we had to pay. $22,000. My dad is CHEAP and he paid it. She died THANK GOD before the next month. I never believed the lawyer was going to get us on medicaid. He said he was going to argue to a judge that they can't take my dad's money he needs it to live. I say they would have taken half his money before medicaid would kick in. Anyways, most people can not afford $22,000. If they would have asked me, I would have said PUT HER DOWN.

So am I poor? I guess I am. So are you. How much are you willing to pay if your parent is terminal for 2 years? How much a month? I know you have it better than us in Canada. I have a cousin who's mom died. You guys have it good. I know you pay for it in taxes, but trust me, the USA system would break your broke ass.

To be eligible for MAID in Canada, a person must generally:

✅ Be 18 years or older and capable of making health decisions

✅ Be eligible for publicly funded health care

✅ Make a voluntary request free of external pressure

✅ Provide informed consent about their condition and options

✅ Have a grievous and irremediable medical condition — defined as:
  • a serious and incurable illness, disease, or disability
  • an advanced and irreversible decline in capability
  • enduring, intolerable suffering that cannot be relieved under conditions acceptable to the procedure

⚖️ Safeguards and Assessment

Before MAID can be provided:
  • Two independent assessments by qualified clinicians (physicians or nurse practitioners) must confirm eligibility.
  • A written request signed by an independent witness is required.
  • In some cases where natural death isn’t reasonably foreseeable, there are extra safeguards such as minimum assessment periods and additional discussions on alternatives.
  • Consent must be confirmed immediately before MAID is provided.
