Can we all agree that we need to build and modernize our infrastructure?

That's true in Oregon, too, along the coast.

I want to see us get the debt and deficit going in the opposite direction, for starters, while keeping things patched at "home sweet home." I can handle potholes.

Growing our economy is away to reduce the deficit. We spend way to much money on the third world that does nothing for us.

Spending money where it isn't needed doesn't grow the economy. Cutting government spending will grow the economy.

Cutting regs and getting the government out of centralizing control over the private sector is the answer.

We must start thinking like we're 1# if we're going to remains such.
-Modernize infrastructure
-More R @ D for technology

We must get out of the middle east and start focusing on our selfs. Within the next 10-15 years we will understand why this is so as China, India, Japan, etc move ahead of us.

And who do you suggest provide the funding for the R&D?

Can we all agree that we need to build and modernize our infrastructure?

I believe some nation building at home is the way forward for our economy!

No, we can't agree on that. Our infrastructure is as good as anyone's.

If we want to do better than 2% growth we have GOT to do better.

Government construction boondoggles won't help us do better. Building a thousand bridges to nowhere won't grow our economy one bit.

Sure but we may not agree on the best way to Fund that.

WE were living in a credit spending bubble.
Buying homes, furnishing homes,renovating homes.
Everyone spending money we didn't have.People working
because people were spending money they didn't have.

And we thought we had it good.
Now along comes Sandy.
Obama wins election.
Everyone starts spending.To build,rebuild,repair renovate.
It starts all over again.

A good thing. It will have to be done.

How do we pay for it.

That is my question.
Taking money away from those who have it will not pay for it all I don't believe.

Well, a start would be to fund the government at the same rate as it was funded under Clinton. And you might add the Buffet rule. Tariffs on goods from nations without similiar environmental and labor laws. How many of the overseas military bases do we really need? Do we need to spend more than the next 14 nations combined on military? Could we possibly get by on just what the next 7 spend?

We spend far more on health care per capita than any other industrial nation, fail to cover all of our citizens, and have much inferior results. Perhaps we should really look at what they are doing, and adopt what would work for us. Taiwan did that in the mid-90's.

Tax breaks for offshoring businesses? Maybe that is not really a good idea. Perhaps penelties makes more sense. Some regulations that give stockholders more say in the way that businesses are ran might be a good idea, also. The ability for the stockholders to reduce the top end compensation to a reasonable amount might just make some CEO's a bit more responsible. And result in more business, jobs, and money for the government in taxes.

The States should go ahead and rebuild their roads and bridges. Now that the Federal gubmint blows $1 Trillion each year on welfare, we can't expect too much out of them.

Well, dummy, don't let Republican governors do that.

You might look around a bit, and notice that number of Interstate bridges that are in dire need of repair. A few fall down every year. Many of our cities have water systems that lose more water than they deliver to the cities.

Our grid is a creaky antique. Three unconnected sytems, so that the East Coast can be needing power at the same time the Texas grid is shutting down windmills because of overproduction.

With what? And if you people in the red states would go to work, perhaps there would not be such a large amount spent on welfare.

Obama Supporters Subsidize Romney Supporters With Their Taxes - Economic Intelligence (usnews.com)

Studies show that states that elect Democrats contribute the most in federal taxes relative to what they consume in government services. Conversely, many states that elect Republicans contribute the least in taxes relative to the services they consume. This is true even though many Democratic states contain large, poor, urban populations of color.

Here's the evidence: The 10 "Tax Producing States" listed below, left, contribute the most in tax revenues relative to the services they consume. They usually vote Democratic. The ten "Tax Dependent States" listed below consume the most in government services relative to the taxes they pay. And they usually vote Republican. (Each state's name is shown in blue if voters there lean toward Obama, and red if they lean toward Romney, as per Nate Silver's 538 blog.)

Another attack on those poor blacks who disproportional populate the deep south states.

You should be ashamed.

I agree (and this is the one and only time I will agree with you :D). Our cities should all have little rail. Move people more efficiently to help grow the economy.

He's right...They need to get to work and stop sucking off of the government.

With fucking taxpayer money.

See how easy that just rolls off the tongue of a freeloader?

LOL

A what? Do you just fucking make up pretend stories about everybody you interact with?

I PAY TAXES. I WANT TO BE TAXED FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURE. I WANT OTHERS TO BE TAXED AS WELL.

LOL

20 years ago California had roads that were great and well maintained....today they are horrible......way to many Potholes, something that was pretty dam rare at one time.....

The US doesn't need more new roads and bridges it needs better electrical grids to carry heavier loads, which means more nuke plants. The grid needs to be redundant ready for emergencies, etc.

Also, the cyber networks both public and private need to be protected bettter. The US is at risk to a major cyber attack from another country or hackers/terrorists.

This stupid storm on the east coast is nothing compared to a cyber attack shutting down our financial system, electrical grid, communications networks, etc nationwide.

If you want to spend money upgrade cyber networks and our electrical grid system to overcome attacks and natural disasters.
