I like people. I respect them. I admire them. I’m proud of how far we’ve come, through adversity, impossible odds, and countless challenges. But sometimes it feels like we fail to see our connectedness. We’ve learned to fear, distrust, and even hate each other. The thing is, your enemy isn’t inherently evil. They just grew up in and understood a different world than you did. So I wonder, can this ever be repaired? Are we doomed to division and hatred, or is it still possible for humanity to unite, to discover our shared bonds?

Ewww.

I want to shower after reading that.

Some things the right has already compromised on far too much, and we got more and more bullshit as thanks for it.

How can you compromise with people that think women can have penises and expect everyone else to do so?

We don't all have to agree on everything. We just need to respect each other and understand that a different mindset isn't necessarily evil, just the product of a different life.

.

An old quote -- "They told us there can be no peace between us, then act surprised when we act like there can be no peace between us".

That kind of person has no capability for uniting.

I wonder what Jesus would say about all of this.

Respect ended when the left decided as a mass that only their views are allowed, and all others have to be silenced.

You can't negotiate with people who don't believe they need to negotiate.

I use this statement all the time: "The right thinks the left is retarded, the left thinks the right shouldn't exist"

Some mindsets are evil, and when faced with it, ignoring the evil just leads to your own destruction.

We need to agree with each other. Not much of that going around.

Are you religious?

We need to agree on many things and act on those agreements. As it is we are acting on our disagreements.

Every day in this forum, I see posters who offer their political views in terms of "we".

When people see themselves as part of a sub-group, they are part of the problem.

Do we have to see each other as evil, or assume evil motives when disagreement exists?

What if people are just people? Limited, fragile, ignorant? Maybe they're not as evil as we think.

We're divided, in large part, because of our election processes. Plurality voting, and the two party system, reward division and fear mongering. The system discourages consensus building - which is what we need more than anything else right now.

If trump stated he was going to invade Somalia to retrieve the billions in fraud, Minnesota would secede.
