Can a Catholic Be a Democratic Socialist?

lol dude if Jesus actually did exist, he definitely would have been a liberal. Have you ever read the Bible?
No, Jesus wouldn't have supported:
1) Killing babies in the womb
2) Stealing other people's money
3) Gay marriage
4) Tranny surgery
5) Handing out condoms to middle-schoolers
6) Legalizing sex trafficking of minor girls
7) Stealing elections
8) Sex outside marriage
9) Getting high
10) Encouraging hatred

Jesus said nothing at all about gay people. He also believed rich people couldn’t get into heaven. Hell that’s a lot more extreme than me. I have nothing against the wealthy in general. They are important for the economy

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, “The Church has rejected the totalitarian and atheistic ideologies associated in modern times with ‘communism’ or ‘socialism’” (2425). This does not mean, however, that Catholics can embrace a kinder, “Christian” socialism in its place. Pope Pius XI famously declared, “Religious socialism, Christian socialism, are contradictory terms; no one can be at the same time a good Catholic and a true socialist” (Quadragesimo Anno, 120).

OP comment: Democrats are the party of Socialism, Sodomy (gay marriage), Infanticide (late term abortion). Those are plain facts. No Christian, be they Catholic or otherwise, can be a democrat.
a Catholic may be anything

It's false that rich people can't reach Heaven. St. Therese Lisieux and her parents were all well-to-do. All three are canonized saints. The key, of course, is denying self, living modestly and helping others with that money. That's the part that few wealthy people can do.

What do you think was Jesus' political positions?

God is right.

Wo die Zeit nie hinkam, wohinein nie ein Bild leuchtete, in dem innigsten und höchsten der Seele schafft Gott seine Welt.
Meister Eckhart
Where time never went, where no image ever shone, in the innermost and highest of the soul God creates his world.

In general exist pictures and sculptures of Jesus, the Christ, in all colors and all traditions of the world.

Jesus spoke about that it is more easy for a rich man to pass through a needles eye than to get into heaven. It's difficult to say what a "needles eye" is in this context because Jesus also made clear that many things which seem to be impossible for us are possible in god. A common interpretation is it that the "needles eye" had been a way between two very closely neighbouring rocks. Someone who came with camels had to unload his camels first then they had been able to pass. Afterwards they had to carry the loading to the other side. This needed a long time and was a streanuous physical exercise. I guess today this means: Ownership obliges us to take responsibility. Who has more money has more possibilities - but real freedom needs the awareness of responsibility.

Yes - very astonishing craftwork for this time of history. This Jesus gives me a lot to think. And I am by the way on my own not happy about the relation to our female elements within our holy church and the relation to our democratic elements within our holy church. Political absolutism is for sure the wrong way. We always defended and supported women in our history and we always supported democratic structures in our history.

Scandinavians have a high standard of living, a healthy workforce, highly skilled labor.. I don't think the Catholic church is opposed to that.
White homogenous small population, small country. Reliance on oil for their revenue. The idea that whatever they have is because of socialism is malarkey

I mean you’re just pointing out one of many contradictions in the Bible. What makes their “lesson” supersede what Jesus said? You can’t justify this with a contradiction if you can’t justify what Jesus said.

All in all, I am willing to bet Jesus would despise billionaires even if he tolerated millionaires.

I live in Ireland a proud Social Democracy (not a Democratic Socialist) country...

European leaders have no problem saying they follow certain socialist ideas... Why, because America has been too... The Poilce, Public Education, Military, Roads,.... are all Socialist programs... BTW, Obamacare is not socialism, NHS is.. I know this bugs the shit out of Right wingers because they need a boogy man and Socialism is it...
But if you want to condemn socialism please start by saying you want to rip out all roads and bridges... They are paid by tax payers for social benefit (everyone uses the roads without paying for them)

If Obamacare isn't socialism (and I agree that it's not) then by that same measure, Police, Public Education, Military, Roads, etc, are not either. The role of government should be to do for the people what the people cannot do for themselves, not what they can do for themselves but failed to do for themselves.

No. He hasn't read it.
How would you know for sure one way or the other?

But for the sake of argument, let's assume you are correct. It shouldn't be whether he has read it - as you have read it and don't understand it - it should be about whether he understood what he read.

Socialism supplants any and all deitys with The State, as a matter of course.

So, no.

You can have private roads and toll people to use them... It is actually done world wide...

Private education is common around the world too... People paid privately education during the 19th century.

Even the fire services were initially private.

Military used to be private militias and that is why the second amendment has its wording...

The same can be said for nearly all of these services... They are just not efficient and interfere quite heavily in commerce making US far less competitive or attractive for investment.

Many other countries have free third level education and they use that to attract foreign and domestic investment knowing they have a highly skilled workforce. This creates a more competitive country.

People can provide these services they are just highly uncompetitive and very unfair.. It doesn't make common sense but it can be done and has been done and in other countries are still done that way...

What I am saying is that there is a balance every country has one (well countries that are not completely failed)... Someone who says they want to end all socialism should be ignored as much as someone who says they wants to end all capitalism... Both are failed models of how to run a country.

From that position we just have to accept that they are both going to co-exist and we need then discuss how much of either we want.
In the UK off track betting is a completely private affair (regulated i.e you can't cheat)) while in New York it owned by the State and used generate money for the Horse racing industry.
While the opposite is the case when you look at NHS compared to US mainly privatised healthcare system.
Each country picks and chooses.

This is generally called Regulated Capitalism or Social Democracy, in Europe it is believed that the Market (Capitalism) should be for the benefit of the people and not just profit.
