Californians to pay more federal taxes next year

so sad that red states are so poor that they need to over tax California, to bail them out...

Why should Californians (or anyone else) get to claim a deduction on their federal taxes based on what they paid in state taxes?
Why shouldn't they??
FAIR SHARE! TAX THE RICH OR WE WILL A DIE! DO IT FOR THE CHILDREN!
That's what you are doing....

:clap2:
:dunno:

so if a deduction is there and fair game, it's ok to take it?

trump says thank you for understanding.
So you hate the rich and want to punish them by taking more of their money!!!???

Hypocrite!

what the fuck does this have to do with anything?

when part of trumps taxes leaked, the left raked him over the coals for taking maximum benefits. yet here you are saying it's ok for california to do it.

you may wanna look up what hypocrite is cause you just hit the bullseye of hypocrisy.

as for the rich - you don't seem to even know my stance. i'm always saying if the rich get more tax breaks it's because they pay more in taxes. taking money from them and demonizing them is a left sided thing.

She's against it because Trump is for it. End of story. She's a partisan hack.

normally i hate that generality but it does seem to fit in this instance. i said nothing at all about rich people and taxes. i was just q'ing up the "trap" so to speak in her own hypocrisy. she was defending california for using the laws on the books and i'm fine with that. don't like it, change the laws. but when trumps taxes leaked it was a huge blow up by the left that he did the very same thing.

any of us would. saying otherwise is what is hypocritical. unless of course you just want to pay more than what is considered your "fair share".

Great they have been skating by way too long.
They need to pay their fair share, If it upsets them so much they need to elect state and local politicians that will lower their taxes so they will end up below the cap.

So the wealthy will be paying their fair share. That's what the left always says they want, so why the whining and gnashing of teeth?

Trump's tax cut not for everyone: 1 million Californians will owe $12 billion more next year
Gotta pay for all them illegals some how!

How to Screw over Your Tax System!

With the Trump tax cuts, the Republicans decided to punish blue states like New York and Cal. by limiting the deduction for state and local taxes to $10,000. In response, and in February 2018, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a plan that allows companies in New York to impose a 5.0 percent payroll tax on wages above $40,000 in place of some income taxes.

This nullifies the impact of the cap!

Economist Dean Baker wrote this of the situation.

(Quote)

It is not desirable for states to design ways to game the federal tax code. However, the Republican-led Congress clearly decided to abandon longstanding norms of fairness and equity in the way it structured the recent tax bill. It would be foolhardy for states to suffer the economic and political consequences without acting to protect the interests of their residents

(End quote)

The problem is you get unintended consequences, doing this will also shield New Yorkers from taxes they should pay. Dean Baker also writes.

(Quote)

An employer-side payroll tax would also shield state taxes from Social Security and Medicare taxes. This is an additional source of savings for middle-income workers, even though it is not a desirable outcome from the standpoint of supporting these programs.

The potential savings are substantial. (snip) The state as a whole would have savings of more than $7 billion annually. This is money that would stay in New York and support its economy.

(End quote)

Once this kind of "game playing" starts, try to imagine where it will end!

PS: Quotes from article "State Payroll Taxes: A Tool for States to Circumvent the Republican Tax Plan."

Try paying zero taxes and see how long either your society or your economy continues to exist! Simply put, without government, there is no economy and without an economy, there is no government.

Jerry Brown isn't happy about it. Why not? I thought liberals loved seeing everyone's money going to the federal government.

Trump's tax cut not for everyone: 1 million Californians will owe $12 billion more next year

They’re the Californians who will lose a collective $12 billion because the new law caps a deduction they have been able to take for paying their state and local taxes, according to a new analysis by the Franchise Tax Board.

Very wealthy Californians earning more than $1 million a year will pay the lion’s share of that money, with 43,000 of them paying a combined $9 billion.
They're leaving Nuevo El Salvador anyway. The state has taxed them to death.

Democrats must be delighted that California is starting to pay its fair share.
They OVERPAY every single year since I was born, in to federal taxes.....

Talk about a president and political party USING the IRS to PUNISH their political opponents.....

You take the cake!

Hypocrites....Lois Lerner, lock her up!!!
California gets a credit for the high taxes it imposes in its citizens. It is also an open border state that serves as a gateway for illegal immigrants, that not only places a huge burden on itself but also the federal govt. as well as other states.

It always cracks me up....broke fuckers telling the successful what their "fair share" of taxes are when they're already paying around 70% of all the money the Treasury takes in.

The high taxes states were being subsidized by the low tax states through tax deductions.
Liberals demand that the Rich pay their fair share, so why are they whining so loud now?

California was being subsidized by the Federal govt., for its high state taxes. In other words, when individuals and corporations in CA filed federal taxes, they were able to deduct for the state taxes they were paying. So the Federal govt. was basically funding the California lifestyle and its warped immigration policies.

What people don't understand about CA is that it has a strong vein of conservatism and there are many cities and counties that are rebelling against the lunatic Leftists that are in charge. There might still be hope for CA!

You would think not just liberals but all Americans would be in favor of "the Rich paying their fair share." Certainly it is not fair for General Electric to pay no taxes and Mitt Romney (and others like him) to pay at near half the percent of many middle class Americans.

Yet, the complaint in my post and from economist Dean Baker is the screwing over of the tax system. To talk about "fair share" as the Republicans, to quote Dean Baker, "abandon longstanding norms of fairness and equity in the way it structured the recent tax bill" is quite the contradiction.

Yes, there are "longstanding norms of fairness and equity" in our tax system. Clearly, the topic of this post is how the Republicans will sacrifice "longstanding norms of fairness and equity" in an attempt to punish blue states.

Republicans will punish each & every Republican living in California so it can wage war against Democrats for no gain whatsoever.

Trump is so fucking stupid that he thinks this wins him support? How many current Republican House seats in CA will Republicans now lose.

More proof Trump & Trumpettes are dumber than shit.

They only believe others should pay tax.
