Kind of dumb legislation. Let the free market handle this sort of thing. Use the pressure of the purse to make retailers provide more gender neutral items.
I agree, let a retailer do this and lead the way. Gov regulations seems overkill.

I understand gender neutral bathroom regs over how clothes are categorized

People would choose to shop at a store based on whether the toy section was divided? No. No. It's silly.

Many people support businesses that take the lead in supporting LGBTQ rights. The more that do it on their own the less the need to push the gov to regulate and force it by law.

There is no lgbtq right to rearrange stores. There is no need to gender neutralize stores.

Why is there a women's section and a men's section?

A tiny fraction of a fraction may disagree.

The entire idea is asinine in the extreme. It is rather interesting that they are trying to placate a group that is looking for AFFIRMATION in their sexual identity by trying to wipe the labels they identify from the public in general.

One goal directly conflicts with the other.

I honestly came into this thread expecting that the OP article would be debunked by now. There is no way someone thought this was a good idea let alone something that a government even has the power to do.

I present to you case # 2,445,445,444.5 why the left is evil incarnate.

California’s large retailers would have to do away with boy and girl signage for toys and child care aisles, under a bill being considered by state lawmakers.

Assembly Bill 1084 would require retailers with 500 or more employees “to maintain undivided areas of its sales floor where the majority of those items being offered are displayed, regardless of whether an item has traditionally been marketed for either girls or for boys,” according to the Legislative Counsel’s digest of the bill.

The bill would also prohibit the use of signage to indicate whether a particular child care item or toy is for boys or girls. Online retailers with a physical presence in California would be required to label their toy and child care sections in a unisex or gender neutral way.
Why would you want govt dictating to companies how to market their products to consumers? And regulating FREE SPEECH rights to describe and print labels and packaging for most effective marketing???

Now if CA wants to promote a certain culture: Why not give TAX BREAKS to companies that choose to meet their labeling or social engineering standards? Nothing wrong with giving tax incentives. But not fair to punish or force companies to comply with social legislation that doesn't have anything to do with public health and safety regulations preventing risks of danger, harm or damage to consumers. Social legislation is subjective and up to individual choice, so this could be rewarded with grants or tax breaks but not punished or coerced by govt mandates.
Let's just mandate that ALL products be packaged in generic brown paper wrappers with no descriptions and a set price. You just grab-a-bag and go. Do you put girls cap sleeve T-shirts with regular sleeve T-shirts? This just makes product selection more difficult for consumers. What happened to retailers who try to make things more convenient for the customer? SMH. Again we disenfranchise the majority because a vocal minority wants to make a point.
I really question where does this AUTHORITY come from? That decides the MEDIA narrative?

The same Liberals OPPOSE the POPE for dictating policy unless it matches this Narrative.
The same Liberals insist on using both the Judiciary/Supreme Court, the Presidency, and the Speakers or other Reps in Congress
to DICTATE and DECLARE what should be public policy. Even the First Lady as a media figure who is not an ELECTED official.

Do we need to elect reps by party and state to a Cultural Constitutional Council
to address issues of cultural bias versus freedom of speech and exercise of religion, beliefs and creeds?

The Media and the Parties are NOT regulated by the Bill of Rights as Govt is.

So do we need to set up some kind of popular-elected council of reps from every political group, belief and creed
to make sure all groups are represented and protected equally in these "public policy decisions"
(similar to how LGBT are protected even though members only constitute 4% of the population,
and Transgender only a fraction of 1%). Where is the equal protection of all other individuals,
who have their own beliefs, values and ways of expression that shouldn't be targeted for exclusion or harassment,
besides just LGBT members whose beliefs and practices cannot be discriminated against?

I can't wait to have Leftists in Auschwitz style concentration camps. I volunteer to be the gasser.
You want to kill people that don’t agree with you politically?! You sound like a wonderful human
Nah, I want to kill people whom are committed to destroying this nation.
“Destroying” only in your warped little mind. Don’t you think that’s exactly the reasoning that the Nazis had when they had their disgraceful reign in Germany?
I’m not making it up...look at every single liberal community city or state...they are all disgusting, dangerous super shitholes.
Leftism = no God / Church = no value system = no decency / morality = pole puffers and chicks with dicks = no standards = no accountability = lawlessness = wetbacks / criminals
Hahaha...face it bud...your fucked in the head people destroy legit societies.

Why would you think Father Government should play a role in forcing societal workings?
Why should/would Father Government force the citizenry to SUPPORT anything?

What does making the toy section gender neutral have to do with supporting LGBTQ rights?
I think the idea is they don't want subliminal programming from marketing
to "condition" children into thinking certain cultural norms are associated with girls
and certain cultural norms are associated with boys.

They believe that by "deconstructing" and REMOVING cultural conditioning,
this will somehow stop oppressing people from being raised up with
certain stereotypes or expectations on gender. So this is somehow "more natural"
for people to develop "freely" without socially imposed norms "dictating"
associations by gender.

This is leaving out the fact that cultural choices, including "nonbinary" or "neutral"
gender approaches, are for individuals to choose and not for GOVT TO DICTATE.

Even to DICTATE a NEUTRAL approach is STILL a personal preference or bias.
So who has the right to determine THAT policy should be endorsed by Govt as MANDATORY for everyone?

This is getting beyond ridiculous.
There are already attacks on LANGUAGE itself, and how writing is graded,
as being "oppressive" and "imposing white racist superiority" on other people.
