The bill does not prohibit employees from stopping theft. It does prevent employers from asking non-security personnel to confront a person involved in criminal activity. We don't want rank and file employees to be forced to place themselves in harm's way."

Having worked in both retail and retail security for a bit I personally am onside. We didn't want the regular employees involved, and frankly we just did the surveillance bit and had the hired PoPo do any actual arrests. Telling minimum wage retail employees they have to catch shoplifters who could shank them forty seven times in ten seconds is bad karma.

My grocery stores don't have "security staff." Security detail is an extra expense which some businesses
in high crime areas must pay to minimize losses. Businesses are always demonized by the evil left as
"Greedy Business." They get it exactly backwards. The problem is "Greedy Government."
Our Founding Fathers wrote our Constitution with the intent of us guarding ourselves against
the government. Democrats relentlessly get that backwards and screw everything up.

Had you read the bill you would see that the bill seeks to stop a business from using non-security employees to stop shop lifters, the bill doesn't say that it should not be stopped but only with security personnel.

I worked retail part time for a few years. Usually if I saw someone trying to steal, I’d stand about 6 feet away and say, “May I help you find something?” That would usually stop them and they would wonder off. We’d signal each other to watch that person. They would get the message and leave the store.
