California Implosion Continues

Damn right!

The last thing America needs is a well paid workforce!

Gods forbid they pay a decent wage for coming in during a Pandemic.

When did you manage a payroll?
People should be paid what they are worth....and in a Pandemic, if they risk more and are worth more (and grocery store workers were definitely worth more) their pay should reflect it.
You are an idiot.
The VAST majority of Americans in all manner of employment still went to work everyday during the pandemic
You think companies can just infinitely pay people more and more and the fairy godmother will wave a wand and their books will still balance?

People working at those stores face a threat. Mostly from anti masker assholes & other right wing morons who refuse to follopw COVID guidelines.

Here is a graph... this graph is the most important graph concerning Covid.
And it is one you all desperately want to pretend doesn't exist.

As of today there are now less than 15,000 in the ENTIRE nation.

Both of those stores are now closed and Kroger is closing 3 more in Los Angeles because they did the same hero pay garbage.
Gods forbid they pay a decent wage for coming in during a Pandemic.

If the person's wages exceed their added value to the end product or service due to this law, what is Kroeger supposed to do?

Supermarket margins are extremely thin, should they operate at a loss?
Are you saying that Grocery store workers, coming in to keep up supplies during a pandemic are not worth it? I guess they all could have stayed home. That would have been fine since they weren't really that important in your eyes....
Are you saying you know better than Kroger what to pay them, or that some government slug knows better?

Amazing how the left never sees that every time they put one of these ridiculous wage increases into effect, jobs are lost and businesses close. This seems to fit the definition of insanity. Keep doing the same thing over and over hoping for that different result that never materializes.

What America needs is a fairly paid workforce, and that is achieved only by market forces, fascist. It certainly is not achieved by government pointing guns at business owners and forcing us to pay people more than they are worth.

If you're underpaid, work harder, care more about your job. Don't run to your local politician to use force

So you are saying that grocery store workers are so stupid that they take jobs for lower wages than they are worth. They take less money than they could earn somewhere else.

You really have a crappy opinion of people who work in grocery stores

Left destroy everything they touch.
And they wonder why inner cities are food deserts.

Grocery chain Kroger said it closed down two California stores Saturday after the Long Beach City Council approved a COVID-19-related “hero pay” ordinance that increased wages by $4 per hour.

The pay increase, mandated in January, was for workers who were employed at pharmacies and retail stores with 300 or more employees in the Southern California city.

Kroger can't afford a few bucks more at a 5 stores? I'm sure there are many other grocery shopping options to people in LA and Long Beach. Kroger will pay a ton more than that in unemployment benefits alone. Fuck 'em.

That's the whole point!!!

It destroys the middle class and businesses making more people government dependent!

That's why the leadership always talks Socialism! They know it kills people, but it's fantastic for the leadership!

No they won't pay more. All of the big box stores made out like bandits, took 3.7 trillion while state govts crushed small business. I don't shop at any of them.

Now ALL the people in those stores are unemployed. Is that what you wanted?

Kroger can do what it wants. I have empathy for anyone who wants a higher salary. The supermarket business is cutthroat but at a certain range can stay open a long time. The pay increase demanded by Progs is a bit to high for Kroger's tastes. And in fact may cause issues at its other stores.

It certainly seems like the orange cultists agree with that assessment.

How well are they getting paid now?

So layoffs and unemployment don't cost an employer the size of Kroger money? Sure they do!

The only time I shop out my western way at an Albertsons/Safeway (no longer affiliated with Kroger) or Fred Meyer is when I have a really big shopping list and they'll save me tons. Otherwise here on the Oregon Coast, I've been patronizing my local IGA's. The few bucks more is a great tradeoff for the convenience.

Been doing any fishing? Halibut season opens here May 1 and for sure I'll be booking a trip! :D
