California high speed rail may change terminus location

Discussions are underway that could see the first stage of the California high speed railway, which is currently under construction, connect Bakersfield to Gilroy rather than Merced after a report concluded it would be more financially viable.

It's been years since I've heard much about California's high speed rail. Not sure I understand this move, Merced has a population of about 86,000, Gilroy has a population of about 58,000. How in the world is it more financially viable to do a Bakersfield to Gilroy line? Are there that many even going to Bakersfield?

The entire project is a scam.

It's a 6 hour drive from LA to SF, I've done it hundreds of times. It's faster to drive it, than to fly it.

A friend and I raced one time. He flew, I beat him by 20 minutes.
Redding is 3 hours further than SF. He was talking about fly fishing near Redding.

We or those that are poor should all ride mass transit.

The problem with all of these High Speed Rail schemes is that the skip so many possible stops.

In Ohio , 15 years or so ago, they scrapped a plan to have a HSR line go from Cleveland to Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati.

All of the other towns in between would be skipped. Those towns would have all the noise and headaches of the new rail line, but the train wouldn't stop for them. at all.

Its a 250 mile trip, they could easily have a stop every 5 miles along the way and I would think that it would have been a lot more viable.

And a lot slower

It would no longer be high speed if the train had to stop every 5 miles

So billions spent and they're going to connect a 200 mile route?

Evidently high speed rail isn't economical feasable

Authorized in 2008.
Yeah, he was around then too. These projects are purely to benefit the ruling elite, which newscum is.

It was decided while Newscum was nothing more than a gleam in Piglosi's eye.
Oh no, he was working his way in. These corruptocrats are always working to make their ilk richer at the expense of the taxpayers.

Well the guy is 34 so it is understandable he is out after 14 past arrests. Maybe this murder will keep him in for a year,

To be functional at all, high speed rail has to express from major station to major station. The SP Coast Daylight was non-stop between downtown S.F. and downtown L.A..
