I'm seeing a troubling trend lately -- people claiming President Obama is stupid and an idiot, while the whole time asserting he's "destroying the country."

You simply can't make that argument. It's exactly like:

"Bush is stupid but he planned and executed 9/11"

"Bush is stupid but as it turns out, his college grades were better than Kerry's"

"Bush is stupid but he was able to steal the 2000 election."

"Bush is stupid but he still beat the best guy we could put up in 2004."

"Bush is stupid but he tricked us into war"

And so on. It cannot be both.

The point is, President Barack Obama is not stupid, not an idiot, and he cannot destroy the country. This union is NOT that fragile.

I think you have a very valid point. I really believe a lot of Bush's problems started because he listened too much to other people. Toward the end of his presidency, he had a very shakey relationship with Dick Cheney. I've read that he stopped listening to him. In particular, Cheney wanted him to pardon Scooter Libby and Bush refused and would not budge.

It's not that I think Bush was totally clean, but some of the things he is accused of are silly. Especially his being behind 9/11. That was a really awful rumor. I truly don't think that I have seen a prez in my lifetime that has deliberately set out to ruin the country.

First, I disagree. Civilization, not just our own nation, is very fragile. Why do you think society changes so much from generation to generation? It's only because of the Holy Scriptures and the Constitution that this country has been able to maintain it's values and cohesiveness for so long. Now, since both are being blatantly ignored, it's only matter of time before our society collapses. It may happen tomorrow or 50-100 years from now, but its going to happen. It's already in motion.

Second, President Obama may have the ability to be intelligent. Heck, he may be a very intelligent man. But he is a fool. We have hundreds/thousands of years of history to show is exactly where we are heading if we dont change. We know what happens if we over spend. We know what happens if we over tax and borrow. We've seen what happens when we apply socialist principles as solutions to problems. We know exactly what happens with government run healthcare. We've got plenty of failed examples to choose from.

Yet, he still insists we do it. He still has us overspending. We know how to stimulate the economy, he chose to line his donor's pockets. He plans on manufacturing crisis after crisis so people will continue giving him power. And it's downright foolish. He may be smart. But that doesnt mean he is wise. And just because he has intellectual capability doesnt mean he is exercising it in on iota.

And your point? Bush eliminated the jail time. Personally if I were Bush I would have completely pardoned him, since the person that revealed the status of Plame was not even charged with a crime. Further it is ILLEGAL to base an investigation solely on perjury which is in effect what was done to Libby.

Hear hear. I never thought Bush was "stupid," just that he got snowed by a team that believed all conservative ideologies could be put into place without hardship. And I think Obama has become swept up in the same pipedream, by listening too much to economists and liberal idealogues who believe the tables can be turned just because they say so.

The reality is that the people are stupit.

The reality is that people now have TOO MUCH information to absorb and analyze. Based upon one's inherent political persuasion, all you have to do is read read read the enormous amount of information, true or not, that will flood your brain in support of your ideology. I just ran across a quote from W. Somerset Maugham which says it beautifully:

"It is dangerous to let the public behind the scenes. They are easily disillusioned and then they are angry with you, for it was the illusion they loved."

He was talking about Hollywood, but the statement can be applied to the political climate of today. I'm sure we all think that "transparency" will make us all better informed, but so far all it has done is open up the floodgates to allow for rumor and outright lies, a lot of which is unwarranted.
