Rocket Man needs this badly. However, there's a sincere threat of a coup if he leaves the country to meet in Singapore. He can't go any further than China and even that is iffy for him. Besides, he has no way to get there on a North Korean jetliner as all of his are aging and unable to fly that far.

As far as President Trump meeting him anywhere on the Korean peninsula, that's a security nightmare for both the president and Kim. The president cancelling the summit is a face-saving move for Kim. That's something we Westerners cannot fully understand.

Here's my guess as to what will happen. Kim will send his sister to meet with Vice President Pence, the president of South Korea, and a high-level Chinese representative. They will make something work.
