There's like 4 OZ of refrigerant in a home unit. Not much of a bang there.Refrigerators are moving from freon to an explosive gas refrigerant.
Betcha it was the fridge.
The Risk: Flammable Refrigerant (R600a)
- What it is: Most modern refrigerators use R600a, which is isobutane, a highly flammable substance.
- Why it's a risk: If a leak occurs, the gas can escape inside the closed refrigerator.
- The ignition: If an ignition source is present (like the electrical contacts in a thermostat), it can ignite the accumulated gas, causing an explosion.
