Explain to me why an American F-22 and a Canadian jet fly to the Yukon in Canada, but it is the AMERICAN F-22 which ends up being the one to shoot it down?
Is Canada going to reimburse us for the spent Sidewinder?

Yesterday, China was still telling the same story. They claim the balloons are weather balloons and were blown off course. This is straight from China. Caution: Lots of BS....
AFP: A senior US State Department official has said the equipment found on the Chinese balloon was clearly for intelligence surveillance and inconsistent with the equipment aboard weather balloons. And around the same time, the US House of Representatives also passed a resolution condemning China for using a surveillance balloon over US territory. What is China’s response to this? Could you perhaps tell us what equipment was on the balloon?
Mao Ning: The Chinese side has repeatedly shared information and stated its position on the unintended entry of the unmanned Chinese civilian airship into US airspace due to force majeure. The US Congress’s resolution is purely about scoring political points and dramatizing the whole thing. China deplores it and firmly opposes it.

Q: On February 3, senior US State Department officials said at a briefing via teleconference that due to the entry of a Chinese unmanned airship into US airspace, US Secretary of State Blinken has decided to postpone his planned trip to China. Do you have any comment?
A: Regarding the unintended entry of a Chinese unmanned airship into US airspace due to force majeure, the Chinese side has verified it and communicated it to the US side. It is a civilian airship used for research, mainly meteorological, purposes. Affected by the Westerlies and with limited self-steering capability, the airship deviated far from its planned course. This is entirely an unexpected situation caused by force majeure and the facts are very clear. China always acts in strict accordance with international law and respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries. We have no intention to violate and has never violated the territory or airspace of any sovereign country. Some politicians and media in the US have hyped it up to attack and smear China. The Chinese side is firmly opposed to that.
Maintaining contact and communication at all levels is an important common understanding reached by the Chinese and US presidents at their meeting in Bali. One of the tasks of the diplomatic teams on both sides is to properly manage bilateral relations, particularly to manage some unexpected situations in a cool-headed and prudent manner. In fact, neither side has ever announced that there would be a visit. It is a matter for the US to make its latest announcement, and we respect that.

Airspace above Havre, Montana, was briefly closed Saturday evening due to 'an object that could interfere with commercial air traffic'. NORAD later said a 'radar anomaly' was seen, and no object found.
The question is, what is China saying? This is serious.

The only things that make sense to me, regarding China's motivations for continuing the balloon assault are...
- The balloons are very sophisticated, and are providing such valuable intelligence, that China is going "all in" before we develop impenetrable defenses.
- They are testing of our defenses.
- The balloons are diversions from some other ongoing activity. (e.g undersea activity)
There are political aspects too, like Biden being very weak and a puppet of China, of course. China knows the repercussions are likely to be weak. Ya think we are going to enact sever sanctions on China when we rely on them for life-saving drugs and batteries and just about everything?
