If the Russian fascist invaders try to launch an offensive against Ukraine from occupied Moldova (so-called "Transnistria") they won't be able to support their troops, either on the ground from occupied Kherson oblast or from the air.

Ukraine will defeat such an offensive.

Maybe Moldova, whose predominant language and culture is Romanian, should consider merging with Romania to enable it to better resist Russian threats and aggression.

Moldova has a shaky history, being part of the Ottoman and Russian empires. As noted in Wikipedia, “In February 1918, the Moldavian Democratic Republic declared independence and then integrated into Romania later that year following a vote of its assembly.”

However, in 1940, Romania was forced to concede Moldova to the Soviet Union as a result of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. When the Soviet Union dissolved, Moldova declared independence in 1991. Perhaps a referendum to reunite Moldova and Romania could be held in both nations, maybe overseen by EU monitors.

As a member of NATO, Romania, with the newly annexed Moldova, would be in a better position to squash the breakaway region of Transnistria and force out the 1,500 Russian soldiers there.

Except that Romania doesn't want them because they see the Moldovans as dirty, poor moochers. And even Moldovans don't want it either.

Barvenkovo depots are really good source of supply. But what is even more important, the very existence of the Russian forces in Transnistria (as well as existence of Russian Fleet in Black Sea, pro-Russian underground in Odessa and offencive grouping near Nikolayev) force Ukrainians keep significant forces in Odessa region. And those soldiers who are staying in Odessa region do not fight Russian Army in Donbass.

I remember about ten years ago being on a forum where there was a guy from Romania. I do not remember what Russia had done but they were sure then that Russia was going to try and get them back to Greater Russia. This may have been before they joined Nato. They were talking of bringing in conscription so I would say that Romania would do everything it could to stop Russia moving its way.
