Breaking! At Last Minute, Judge Engoron Denies Trump To Give His Closing Defense Argument At Civil Fraud Trial

Yes it is a dishonest thread for sure.
The judge set illegal terms, since free speech requires none Lakookta.
You misunderstand the basic concept of free speech as it pertains to courtroom rules and procedures.
This civil trial has been all about determining the dollar amount that Trump is going to have to pay for restitution for his fraudulent business practices.
It's not to determine guilt or innocence.
That has already been determined.
Trump has had his chance to present his "side of the story," in other words to convince Judge Engoron that he should not, if fact be liable for these fines and penalties.
But his sorry defense team did a pretty piss-poor job of that.
It was all just a laughable parade of lies....with paid "professional" witnesses and his half mutant sons presenting what amounted to infomercials on The Trump Organization, and self damning admissions about who had final sign-off on the documents.....and finally Trump's own rambling "testimony" on the stand which went wildly off the rails prompting the judge to admonish Trump's attorneys to "PLEASE CONTROL YOUR CLIENT---OR I WILL" to which the attorneys could only reply with (basically) "good luck with that."

So...given all that WHY would any judge allow the defendant to take the stand in his court just to pull even more of that crap?
Ranting and raving like a lunatic and pontificating on his "perfect innocence" when that isn't even relative to the proceedings?
That's not "free speech."
Any other defendant in court who sits in the witness box and tries to speak off point and make some random, irrelevant speech gets shut down very quickly.
Trump is going to have a crash course in this when his criminal jury trials commence this year.
He'll be told to "just answer the question" and if he tries to say more the jury will be told to disregard the statement.
If he continues to ignore the judge's warnings then he'll be held in contempt.
If that doesn't finally ring his bell he'll be incarcerated and only be allowed to return to trial in an orange jump suit.
Playtime is over.
These courts are DONE being played by this chump.
It will be up to him if he has to learn this the hard way.

Right!

And in "delivering closing arguments, Trump would've been bound by the same rules as an attorney would"
Trump was like "What me, rules and laws? You gotta be kidding!"

"They can only argue what the evidence has shown, what the evidence has not shown, and what reasonable inferences can be drawn from the evidence," Kuby said of pro-se defendants.

"The defendant can't just sit up there and shriek until the judge hits them with a rolled-up newspaper," he quipped.

Two questions
Do other defendants every get to present part of their defense themselves?

Depends. They can request to make relevant statements to the court or jury. The key is relevant to the case and evidence presented.

When they request to do so, how often are they denied.?

Don't know. It's pretty rare. Competent attorneys will normally keep their clients firmly planted in a chair and their mouths closed.

The sooner Trump and his clueless MAGAt Trumptard cultists come to understand something the easier it is going to be on all of you.
This isn't "The Donald Trump Show" anymore.
He doesn't get to make the rules.
From now on the courts/judges make the rules....and the spray-tanned charlatan just has to follow them.
Period.
Just like any other criminal defendant would be expected to.
Before MAGAts take to the internet and start whining about "persecution," or "unfairness," or "bias," you should first ask yourself "is he REALLY being treated any differently than any other indicted felon in The U.S. court system?"
If the answer is "no" then you should feel free to STFU.

Quit yer whinin snowflake.
Meh, we are going to retake the White House then make Democrats suffer.

I wonder why it doesn’t say specifically “the defendant” instead of “a party”??

Because "defendant" is the term used for criminal cases. "Party", "Claimant" or "Respondent" is normally used for civil cases.

This is a civil case.

Donald Trump won’t make his own closing argument in his New York civil business fraud trial after his lawyers objected to the judge’s insistence that the former president would stick to “relevant” matters.

Judge Arthur Engoron rescinded permission on Wednesday, a day ahead of closing arguments in the trial.

Judge Rescinds Permission For Trump To Give Closing Argument At Fraud Trial

The Judge was allowing Trump to act Pro se, if he would agree to the rules... But Trump was like "What me? Rules?"

100% lacking context for intentional 100% Dem dishonesty. You people need some new material.
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Sunday defended his comments that a man who tried to rush the stage during a rally on Saturday had ties to ISIS, saying all he knew about it came from what he saw on the Internet. :auiqs.jpg:

“Now, I don’t know. What do I know about it? All I know is what’s on the Internet,” Trump said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday. :aug08_031:
