How did we "colonize" Afghanistan, or any other country for that matter? Were millions of Americans moving there, setting up businesses, and exploiting those country's resources for their own profit?

And how did we practice "Imperialism"? Did we appoint Americans as leaders in those countries, to run them as we please? Did we run those countries under our own laws, disregarding their laws and customs?
