Here's a fact.

Many people have more than one reason for doing many of the things they do.

What you are insinuating is that once they recieved money for playing they no longer felt a love, a passion or a zeal for the game.

Even more, you'd suggest players don't play for pride and to prove they are the best.

Or out of a sense of proving something to those who may have dissed them.
