The “diversity” analogy with a financial portfolio is laughable. In a financial portfolio, there is Diversity - but there is certainly no Equality. And, if a stock or financial asset is not performing, there is no Inclusion.

But, if she wants to drive her point home by modeling a work team like a financial portfolio, let’s do it - but get ready for some heartache. A financial portfolio is empirical, not aesthetic. That means if a significant number of stocks carry more weight (significance) because of their performance impact and they all happen to be from tech, healthcare, and banking sectors while the regulated utilities stocks are minimal and lower weighted, there is no push for the regulated utilities stocks to be “better represented” unless there is a compelling performance impact these utilities stocks can provide (eg risk reduction).

Rep. Crockett thought she was educating us and profoundly opening our eyes with the Diversity in Financial Portfolio analogy when what she really did was open up an even bigger can of worms.
