Bill Maher Says He Was Wrong About Trump Tariffs - thread 2

Saw Votto had posted this and got his thread closed. He beat me to posting it so the credit goes to him. Bill Maher admits Trump's tariffs didn't destroy the economy. Can lefties all now "come out" and admit that Trump's tariffs didn't destroy the economy? I doubt it.

TACO, MAGA chump.

Most of Trump's tariffs have never been implemented because Trump Always Chickens Out.

If Trump kept his most disastrous tariffs against China in place, then things would be much worse....and they probably will get much worse.

You dope. We are collecting record amounts of tariffs. Do you ever reach the point where you quit lying?

Stop believing Trumps lies.

The tariffs have not hit yet. Come talk about this next year after Trump's budget begins to take effect

Now let's look further into the link presented by non thinker.

"With total government receipts from October through June amounting to $4.01 trillion, customs duties still account for less than three percent of federal government revenue, with individual income taxes, social security contributions and corporate income taxes accounting for the lion’s share (95 percent) of the total. Even in June, with tariff revenue at an all-time high, import levies accounted for no more than five percent of total receipts. This shows that generating additional income to support the budget is not the main objective of the Trump administration’s tariff offensive. Instead, Trump views high tariffs (or the threat thereof) as a bargaining tool, as he seeks to re-negotiate trade agreements on his own terms."

According to economists, this will likely happen at the expense of U.S. consumers, who are expected to bear the brunt of the additional tariff costs. Goldman Sachs estimates that consumers will shoulder 70 percent of the additional costs, while U.S. businesses and foreign exporters will each assume 15 percent of the tariff burden.

If the tariffs haven’t hit yet then how are we collecting billions and billions of dollars from tariffs? The numbers don’t come from Trump you moron.

What would be great is if the bill presented by Hawley to send tariff rebate checks to every citizen. That would help.

You guys are just so funny. You think that all these changes impact immediately. The inflation under Biden was baked in when Trump cut off the world's supply chain a year earlier. Inventory dried up... prices went up.

Now you are see higher costs which will be baked in over the next year. You'll start seeing it in the fall then winter and finally the spring of next year.

I am currently negotiating prices and quantities for next March-May. The factories secure the raw materials, over the next 60 days through September, ship them to the factory Oct-Nov, cut mold form finish and package Nov-Dec and Ship in January, travels until February and is delivered to us in March/April/May.

Welcome to the world of international trade.
