If we got rid of criminals we wouldn't need to get rid of guns. Plus we would have the added benefit of having a better society because just because a criminal doesn't have a gun doesn't suddenly mean they become model citizens. If you got rid of every gun in America we would still have the criminals, the source of the problem hasn't gone away.

But maybe that's why they are so easy on criminals, so they can let things get so bad so they can justify taking away guns. If you hurt, scare or anger people enough they will agree to anything to make the pain go away. I think they will willingly let something so bad happen just to excuse them swooping in and saying "were getting rid of guns so this never happens again".

The Constitution allowed slavery too but things change and people are tired of seeing their fellow citizens leaving schools, churches, movie theaters, etc. in body bags.
