We bought my ex a Chevy Volt in 2013. The charge was only up to 40 miles. When the battery is exhausted it flipped over to gas.
The thing is, over the years, he hardly ever drove on gas. Most people don't drive very far normally.
It flipped over to gas when he drove to our place by Mt.Rainier or when he drove into the city it flipped over to gas on his way back home from the city.
Most people just don't drive that far on a regular basis.
