This is nonsense, how long do you think it will take to address the reasons for the protests and incorporate the necessary changes? Do we have to put up with all this violence and destruction until that happens? Do you believe that defunding or even abolishing the police depts is the answer? How long will that take, it ain't like you can snap your fingers and it's done. Or do you think all this rioting will cease when somebody makes some promises? I think there are quite a few individuals and groups out there that don't give a rats ass about BLM and police misconduct. These aren't law-abiding people.

Let me tell you when this shit will end: it will end when law enforcement and the Natl Guard arrive in an overwhelming show of force and arrest the assholes who are currently rampaging through our big cities. And not one minute sooner.

It will end when the problem is solved. It will abate when covid 19 is under control and people return to their jobs and schools leaving less time to protest. More riot control does not solve the problem. It just attracts more protesters, rioters, and bystanders which just make it worse. It doesn't do any good to arrest rioters unless there are serious charges and evidence because the courts are overcrowded as are the jails thus they are released within day or so.

You are correct that there are people on the streets that have no interest in protests but they are there to burn and pillage. These people should be locked up but that is not as easy as it sounds.

I certainly do not believe in de-funding the police. I'm all for developing more community resources such as community service people, mental health professionals, and social workers that help families in serious need, job training, help for the mentally disturbed, and kids being pulled into gangs and criminal activity. Once these services reduce crime, then it's time to reduce police present.

This is just not true. Who knows when COVID19 will be under control and people can go about their lives as they did a year ago. As noted in other threads, part of the problem lies not with the police or local govt, but with those who resist arrest and put the cops in a position where they feel that their life and well-being are threatened. I don't think that's going to change anytime soon so we're going to continue to see black guys get shot, armed or not. And then the resulting protests which will turn into riots, violence, and destruction all over again IF the local gov't doesn't quell it before it get out of hand.
