I look at it this way. Is Biden misusing his pardon ability? Yes just like when Clinton sold pardons.
Are these people in prison because they were worried about the lives that they took? Not hardly.
Should we be worried about their life since they were not worried about their victims life?

He didn't need to commute their sentences before now. He had a moratorium on the DP, and that was enough.

Let's review what happened here. The Death Penalty was restored nationally in the 1970s, but the Federal Government executed no prisoners under Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush the Smarter, or Clinton. Bush the Dumber executed 3 people (Including Timothy McVeigh) but that was pretty much it. Obama put a moratorium on Federal Executions. Then Trump came along and started popping them off like party favors with very little review at the end of the first time he disgraced the White House.

Good on him.

The sooner we join the rest of the civilized world in ending the Death Penalty, the better. We are in a club that includes Iran, Saudi Arabia and Red China.

These pardons are only ever offered by Biden and other presidents when it can’t harm them politically. It’s like the Al Smith Dinner or the East Egg Roll...we just come to accept there are these customs that go with the office. One of them is the Pardon for connnected people or favored groups.

I'm torn on the death penalty. It's too kind. Think of the suffering they gave out. This one woman on Interrogation Cam admits the guy was alive while the pigs were eating his guts. Make her sit in jail the rest of her life. Hopefully she gets Alzheimers and dies slowly. Or cancer and suffers for a few months. A needle is too kind.

I'm torn because they watch tv, play cards, read books, get prison jobs, make friends, eat junk food, 3 square meals a day, free healthcare. But I know it's not a great place to be. But it is a life. And I can't help believe a lot of these guys or gals can't take care of themselves in society so they say fuck it knowing prison will take care of them. It's like early social security/assisted living/medicare for losers. They live parasitic lifestyles so if they kill their families they go right from that house to the big house.

A lot of people plead guilty to avoid the death penalty. So you know they don't want it. And some people just need to be put down.

I favor the death penalty for some cases. I just have issues with its application. The Death penalty, as applied by the US has always been unevenly applied, with the poor and the minority offender much more likely to receive a death sentenced.

President Biden on Monday commuted the sentences of 37 individuals on federal death row, and their sentences will be reclassified from execution to life without the possibility of parole.

The president, in announcing the commutations, said he is “more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level.”

Some of those pardoned include Billie Jerome Allen, who was sentenced to death in 1998, Carlos David Caro, who has been on death row for over 15 years, and Len Davis, who has been on death row for over 25 years, among dozens of others.

“These commutations are consistent with the moratorium my Administration has imposed on federal executions, in cases other than terrorism and hate-motivated mass murder,” Biden said in a statement.

“Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss,” he said.
