A very, very, very long time ago I tutored a young man from Iran who was in Boston seeking asylum. His school had taken a class trip to Greece where he converted to Greek Orthodox. You can imagine how that went over back home. He could not return to Iran because he could have been taken right on the tarmac, made to kneel, and beheaded immediately. His family was, of course, not allowed to leave Iran. The Greek Orthodox church where he converted raised money from among their community and paid for him to fly to the US where he sought asylum.

I was tutoring him in the LSAT. He eventually attended law school in Boston after having been granted asylum.
