I'm not upset that Elon is looking for waste, I applaud the idea, but I'm not happy with how it is being done. He is taking a chain saw to the government, I'd much rather see him use a scalpel. If you doctor says you have a bad knee you might expect him to operate on the knee, you don't expect him to recommend you amputate the leg. I also don't see a lot of empathy for the people who are being affected by his, often arbitrary, policies.

Where was the empathy for taxpayers when these agencies knew they were involved in waste, fraud, and abuse. Couldn't they have quietly sabotaged these programs?

On busy shopping days my boss would remove the "tare" from the scale as I was weighing and labelling packaged meats. When he was out of sight I would reset the tare. To him it was increasing profits, to me it was cheating the customer.

I think differences in policy constitute waste, fraud, or abuse and so far as I can tell, Musk has found very little waste, fraud, or abuse (if you don't count abuse of government employees).

From the DOGE website: The Department of Education terminated grants to the four “Equity Assistance Centers” totaling $33M. Sorry if that is the best they can come up with but that is neither waste nor fraud nor abuse. That is the agency doing what Congress and the previous administration directed them to do. More of the Trump administration fantasies.
