Best drivers on the planet

Egyptian drivers in Cairo. There are no rules, but traffic still moves efficiently.

I love the WRC, absolutely the best drivers on the planet. Bar none.

Cool to watch but I couldn't help but wonder how many spectators each year get transformed into unrecognizable piles of goo.

Rally and Formula 1 drivers are excellent high speed drivers, but that is only one type of excellence. Another type is hypermiling. Going farther per gallon is less exciting, but will be more important as fuel becomes more expensive.

FWIW, I've spent many months living/vacationing in The Villages, Florida. Believe it or not, driving here is as challenging as driving in Rome, Barcelona, and other nightmare venues around the world. Not as LETHAL, of course - the speeds are relatively slow - but you really have to pay attention and be able to react in real time. You have cars, golf carts, bicycles, E-bikes, and pedestrians, all of which have their own rules and customs, You have a road system for golf carts (etc) running alongside - but not exactly alongside - the roads, and there are dozens of traffic circles coupled with drivers from all over North America with their own customary ways of driving. And of course, we are all old, so we are often distracted, not seeing all that well, and our reflexes are often "compromised."

You not only have to do what YOU are supposed to be doing, but you cannot assume that anyone else on the road is doing what THEY are supposed to be doing.

It can be quite intimidating.

Im giving the best drivers award to TT racers on The Isle of Man. There arent any guard rails or large green lawns to slide off into. There is nothing but stone walls, trees, houses, mailboxes and light poles if you go off the "track". If you go off the track, you pretty much die instantly. Its the most dangerous sport on Earth. A lot of sports claim that title, but several people actually die every year during the two weeks that they race on the Isle of MAN. They are hitting 200+ mph on residential roads. I believe they have lost an average of 3 people per year since they started this race way back in 1907.

This shit is nutty! Click play and watch it for just 30 seconds. Youll see.

Oh, I have been posting TT videos here for years. But those are RIDERS, not DRIVERS.
