Could misinformation about Social Security be paving the way for privatization? That’s how Bernie Sanders sees it.
Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont told CNN that lying about Social Security “is a prelude not only to cutting benefits, but to privatizing Social Security itself.” By making the system appear dysfunctional, then “why would anybody want to support it?”
DOGE aims to cut 12% of the Social Security Administration (SSA) workforce, reducing staff from 57,000 to 50,000. It’s also consolidating 10 regional offices down to four and closing 45 field offices across the country, according to Government Executive.
A leaked email from SSA’s acting commissioner Leland Dudek, published by The Bulwark, sparked fresh fears about privatization.
The March 1 email to staff stated they need to “revitalize SSA operations by streamlining activities” and “outsource nonessential functions to industry experts.”

Comment:
Bernie Sanders is using baseless fear to agitate insecure people.
There are no plans to cut social security payments.
Sanders is using a classic political tool called fear mongering.
The Trump Administration is trying to make the SS system more efficient so that it will stay solvent longer.
The Democrats blew $1.7 trillion dollars on their "Inflation Reduction Act" which was the largest pork barrel looting spree in the history of our country; and that money should have been used to shore-up our SS system instead.

OP,, do Republicans want to cut social security, yes or no?
Social Security is already cut as they use whatever ways of living that is the cheapest and divide them from the costs from the previous year for each. All of that printed up fiat currency legislation the first two years of Joe and little to show for it. And we know what will happen again when you return to power. Most of the threads started are from Progressives on these forums. Innocent little Progs.

Do Republicans want to cut it even more or is their goal to beef it up and strengthen it?

Thanks to you and your Democrat friends in congress.

Going to have to get creative.

Repulicans know it is a death knell to cut it. Saying that, there is corruption in the system. There are people on SSI who are cheating the system. We have let more and more people collect who never put anything into it. As of a decade or so ago, I think it was one of the more efficient in that it sends out checks and that is not a difficult thing. It was around 94% efficient at that time.

No, Republicans are not working to cut SS. What this administration is doing is looking for 1. Fraud - in that millions receive benefits that aren’t entitled to them. 2. Waste - Using outdated, archaic systems to run the department, causing more employees than actually needed. 3. Abuse - Using ‘draw down’ procedures that allow employees to raid the system of monies that could be spent on what they’re meant for, and in some cases to line their own bank accounts…

Shouldn’t that be a bi partisan goal at this point?

Maybe, MAGA should quit trying to cut Social Security and then he might shut up.

Where are charges for all these alleged "fraud, waste and abuse" cases?

According to your very post, there should be millions.

SS, it is a fixed system. No one is cutting anything and never plans to cut anything in SS. But for Waste Fraud and abuse. In fact annually they give out a Cost of Living increase. I heard one year was over 8%. Not too bad.

SSDI is a different story. That is where they hide payments to many older illegals (even if never worked a day). Yes they can use 40 quarters of other household members. Imagine the corruption there? Can you get double if you sign up twice in different cities? I believe it is actually called SS or "supplemental" I could look it up and explain and cut/paste but the Filthy Board Stain turn my gut. Why try to give them anything? Let them die on the vine. They are cancerous parasites, feeding off the productive American host.

Democrats, using fear mongering to get votes?

Say it ain't so.
