The public can tell if a track and trace phone call is legit because it will sound professional, the deputy chief medical officer has said. Jenny Harries claimed it would be obvious in the conversation the person calling was genuine. Around 25,000 tracers will notify people if they have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for coronavirus and they will then have to self-isolate.

This is giving us all a good laugh right now. Another example of conservative idiocy in action.

What would have been the proper response to the stupid question that is not "idiocy in action"?

Maybe some system of validation ? that would be a basic I would have thought. the whole system has been set up by a tory supporter so its no shock that it is shit.

The article indicates that all legit calls will come from a single NHS phone number showing on the caller ID. Isn't that "validation"?

Nothing. All those people under extended lockdown won't have money to be scammed out of anyway.
