The recent offering from Republicans to 'repeal and replace' PPACA with virtually the same thing is a bad joke, but it will probably sell to uncritical voters. Repackaging the individual mandate as a tax incentive is a con. Will we fall for it?
 
Liberals chose to reform health policy despite the political risks, because their political coalition includes the people who are most extensively screwed by the health policy status quo. Conservatives have decided that cynicism is a better political strategy, for the reasons Klein inadvertently lays out. They're probably right on the politics, but that's nothing to be proud of.

Republicans, or at least the Republicans in Congress, won't steer us away from the policy changes foisted on us by ACA because they have the same desire to expand their power as Democrats do.
