In his own defense, the guy himself said that "The first-time political candidate said he got the skull and crossbones tattoo in 2007, when he was in his 20s and in the Marine Corps. It happened during a night of drinking while he was on leave in Croatia, he said, adding he was unaware until recently that the image has been associated with Nazi police."

Benefit of the doubt? He served his nation well. Where are the people who would back up that somehow he had or spouted pro-Nazi views?

It's amusing to see the people who actually---well you know.

Wow!

"Platner said he had never been questioned about the tattoo's connections to Nazi symbols in the 20 years he has had it. He said it was there when he enlisted in the Army, which requires an examination for tattoos of hate symbols."

again, wow.

He's a psychopath ... just like you.
If he were a Republican, even if he'd won the Medal of Honor, you'd still call him a Nazi.
******* hypocritical asshole.

I totally had no idea that was a Nazi tattoo while I was spewing antisemitism all over the place.

I did notsee the Democrats running this guy in Maine as their candidate.

I have read and watched historical videos of a great deal of incidents in WWII and I never heard of this particular tattoo.

The best information one can glean is from old interviews of former WWII vets, from the U.S to Japan. I cannot recall that tattoo being raised but I did hear of the routines and groupthink encouraged.

For instance, Hitlers youth, not surprisingly perhaps we learn that young men were heavily influenced to be proud and join this patriotic German group. It is not much different today if someone joins a special forces as an 18 year old right? The difference is if you are on the Good Guys team or not.

Ditto for young Japanese pilots who were encouraged to become suicide bombers in the pinch. Many former soldiers did not respect the Japanese leaders for encouraging this unnecessary loss of life.

Thus, I can imagine this not being known by the politician. Removing it would have been prudent once he confirmed its symbolism.

People get all kinds of tattoos without researching what if anything a tat symbolizes.

We judge people by their actions and words -- like the words of the out-and-out racists that have come over to usmb from shitty sites.

I posted factual statements from Republicans on race that were and are considered outrageous.
