I've been hearing more and more great things about autonomous vehicles and $30,000 AI robots who will be able to cook and clean for us. What a great future human's have to look forward to. In the future humans will have robot slaves. I want one so bad.
Anyways, today I drive 12 hours on Saturday and 9 hours on Sunday to get to Florida from Michigan. It's a horrible long drive. 75 mph most of the time. Well I would gladly give up control and set my car to the address I'm going to in Florida and have it drive me in the right lane at 55 mph.
You can have the middle and left lane. Go as fast as you want.
I have to stop every 5 hours to stretch and walk the dog. In the future, they will have quick power up stations. Eat lunch, walk the dog, go to the bathroom and in 2 hours you can go another 5 hours. And the car knows where the closets charging station is. AND batteries will be better than now in the future.
18 hours to go 1000 miles at 55 mph.
13 hours to go 1000 miles at 75 mph.
But you have to stop for the night and pay $150 for a hotel. Not me. I sleep the entire way. The 8 hours you spend sleeping at a hotel, I will spend charging my car along the way.
Driving myself, I leave Saturday morning and I get there 3pm Sunday. I'd love to know how long it would take with a self driving car that goes 55mph. Assuming you stop every 5 hours for 2 hours to charge. It's 20 hours let's say. So 28 hours to get there without having to drive. I leave Saturday morning 6am and get there Sunday 3pm. That's 32 hours. The automated vechicle will get there faster and you get 2 hour breaks every 5 hours.
