First you are mistaking "playing dumb" for "I don't give a damn."

Same thing. If you gave a damn you wouldn't be simply playing dumb. Understand that I'm crediting you with being capable of understanding the difference and responding as though you did give a damn if you wanted to.

Second, Joe shouldn't pay attention to anything I post if he is only looking for people who have reached the same conclusions he reached and are in agreement with him.

What Joe wants is neither here nor there. I asked you why he should care. You're still just dodging.

As for me, I've been one of the fortunate few who have had both the time and very good teachers to help with delving deeply in the Bible's languages, cultures, and histories. In past conversations with Joe, he has indicated (as he has in this thread) his interest lies in showing how (at least by contemporary understanding of our language, current social science, and culture) the Bible can be made to look foolish, which is Joe's goal and desire. Everyone should have hobbies, and this is Joe's.

I don't have the time to dig up old studies. So much is online today, I am confident that if you can't find an old professor's source, another has probably noted it as well.

Another dodge. Yes, "online", thus easily found be anyone claiming to have found it before. Not likely the case for anyone searching from scratch. Which means you're really just too lazy to bother backing up your assertions with quotes and links as indicated to begin with. No worries, you share that trait with the vast majority of political pundits. I believe a major culprit is the ongoing deliberate lack of critical thinking skills being taught in this country. Religion continues to serve as a great distraction as well.

The theory is simple: If people become less religious, then society will decay. Crime will skyrocket, violence will rise, and once-civilized life will degenerate into immorality and depravity. It's an old, widespread notion. And it's demonstrably false.

If it were true that when belief in God weakens, societal well-being diminishes, then we should see abundant evidence for this. But we don't. In fact, we find just the opposite: Those societies today that are the most religious — where faith in God is strong and religious participation is high — tend to have the highest violent crime rates, while those societies in which faith and church attendance are the weakest — the most secular societies — tend to have the lowest.
