All of the services have long been brass heavy and are overdue for thinning. Doing the branch’s top man in the midst of armed conflict leaves room for speculation.

My pure speculation is that he is pushing back at "troops on the ground." Too much risk for our precious troops. The attitude "we" are displaying in this whole conflagration is unreal. This is a WAR. Troops will get killed. That's what happens. It is a personal tragedy for the individuals and their friends and family but it is an unavoidable product of doing WHAT MUST BE DONE.
