There are 1.3 million Muslim US citizens and many more Muslims who go to the US to visit, and maybe in the last 10 years a dozen have committed terrorist acts.... and a lot of people think that's reason to get rid of not only Muslims, but the First Amendment.
We need to end all immigration:
Nice pie chart, but be a cherry pie, seeing as it cherry picks facts and then puts them together so people can use their imagination.
Cherry picks facts? For example?
Well, the world isn't made up of the US and countries poorer than Mexico. There are far more countries out there.
Also, showing two figures doesn't have much to do with ending all immigration. Some of those countries have a GDP which is higher per capita than the US. You're going to ban those people from immigrating because there are 5.6 billion people in countries poorer than Mexico?
Also, a country might be poorer than Mexico, doesn't mean everyone in the country is A) poorer than Mexico or B) cannot contribute to the USA. Companies like Google, Microsoft etc might find that there are people in countries like India who are extremely intelligent and could immigrate to the US and earn $500,000 a year.
a) The point of the pie chart is that everybody in the world wants to increase their carbon consumption, i.e., "look for a better life". If we let all 5.6 billion immigrate here, all we will end up doing is destroying our own lives. Isn't that stupid?
b) When Microsoft imports cheaper humans from India, it is to drive down wages, period. Bill Gates would squawk like a little girl if you took away one of his billions, but let and American IT worker ask for an American salary and, oh, **** no. Let's get some 22-yr olds from India who would jump at the chance to get out of there, house them 10 to an apartment (it's better than where they were) and
hold their green cards... Believe me, Microsoft isn't looking out for OUR interests.
Okay, that's your point. But your chart didn't have much to do with your point.
Yes, the US would be stupid to let in every person from a country poorer than Mexico. But the US doesn't let in every person from countries poorer than the US. In fact I know a guy who has a Russian girlfriend. Russia having a HIGHER GDP per capita than Mexico. They lived abroad and he wanted to take his girlfriend to meet his family in the US. They applied for a visa for her, a TOURIST visa, and were rejected. Then he went to his Senator, got a letter of recommendation and they applied again, for a TOURIST visa, and were rejected again. He's moved back to the US now and thinks he can get her back to the US, I bet he can't.
This didn't require the US putting Russia on some kind of ban, it didn't require the US to insult Russia, or to make out something. It just required the US to have a visa policy and stick to it.
Now, those on the right are demanding that there's some big showy law which makes them all happy. Just like they want a big wall that is showy, and doesn't do the job as well as other methods.
It seems to be the way of the right, that they want something they can understand rather than something that works the best. They want walls so they can dance on them.
As for your second point about driving down wages.
Firstly, this is MICROSOFT. The chances are when they're hiring some of the best computer people, they're not coming cheaply.
Yes, when companies import cheaper labor, it drives down wages.
The funny thing is that the right constantly tell everyone how great capitalism is. Then when capitalism bites them on the ass, they're constantly trying to get protectionism. Now, I'm in favor of regulated capitalism. Many on the right seem to be in favor of whatever is going to help them deal with what is pissing them off at that particular moment, and be contradictory from one minute to the next.
No, Microsoft is not looking out for your interests. Neither is any other company at the top of the chain. And yet these people CONTROL government. They control the policies. Even Trump doesn't give a shit about you. He's playing games all the time, he's reduced healthcare for poorer people, he's making national parks harder to use and more expensive for people, he's taking and taking and taking so he, and his rich friends, can be richer. And yet so many people are saying how great he is.
When I talk about changing the way people vote, to stop the partisan bullshit that is destroying the US, the people who believe what they're told by their rich handlers are saying "no, no, no". In fact the right loves the system because it benefits them massively, their last two presidents have become president because of the system, and not because they won the vote.
So, again, people making arguments that fit their agenda, rather than taking the facts and then coming to a conclusion is what we're talking about here.
