Are Tariffs A Good Idea?

How are we being taken advantage of? We want cheap shit. China was willing to sell us cheap shit.
Look at all the exported jobs and manufacturing.
No shit we buy more from them than they buy from us. Is that taking advantage of us?
When we rely on them for critical goods it is.

I don't think the number of countries that redo trade deals with us will matter much. The question is how much will our exports increase once those countries reduce or eliminate their tariffs on us. Will domestic manufacturing expand with more jobs? I'm kinda doubtful about that. Are we going to eliminate all of our import tariffs? If so, imported stuff now gets even cheaper. IOW, I'm not seeing the big gain in manufacturing jobs or the imbalance of trade.
That's the goal, let our goods into various markets that are somewhat restricted now. It's a one way street with certain countries now.
There's a lot of companies listed that will manufacture here, but that will also create a lot of small businesses machining parts, supplying all kinds of industrial needs. It's small business that will grow......that is the backbone of our economy.

It's unfortunate that public surveys make you seethe.

Now, even the least-educated are fleeing from Trump.

New polling shows that the very voters who powered Trump’s return to office are now abandoning him. And if that trend holds, it could upend assumptions about how much campaign messaging and elite discourse really matter. Because it turns out the people who don’t read the Times, don’t watch the Sunday shows, and don’t care about the policy details… still care when the economy sours and their lives get harder.
Because they are garbage!!!!! GARBAGE

Did Biden's tariffs jack up prices? I doubt it. We would have heard about it. This is the difference. If Biden did it, he did it the right way. We never even knew he did it.
Well you just explained why Tariffs by Trump are not the end of the world. If Trumps tariffs jack up prices the Media will be all over it and will pretend that tariffs by Democrats are excellent yet tariffs by Trump are bad.

Yea, shitty jobs we didn't' want. Or jobs being done by unionized, lazy Americans who will demand unaffordable wages and pensions. Isn't that why we sent those jobs away in the first place? I remember you hated those union workers in the 2000's. Do you think they learned their lesson? Or are they now addicted to fentynol?

We're at zero unemployment now. 8 million unfilled jobs. Who's going to fill these jobs?

You're preaching to the choir. Michigan sent more jobs overseas than any other state. Still we survived. We bounced back. I want to bring vital manufacturing back to America too. But not everything. I still want cheap shit from China. And I want the rest of the world to buy from us. Right now the rest of the world is looking for new partners. They don't like our new President.

Trump didn't tell us last year things were gong to get really bad before they got better. Now he's telling us only 2 dolls this xmas not the 30 we are used to getting under Biden.

And he was deporter in chief. Deported more than Trump. But he didn't have any woopsies.
It is the media Sealybobo, They protected Biden like he was their baby.
It was fine with the media that Biden deported, yet they raise hell when Trump does the same thing.

Canadian prime minister Carney likes Trump and is in DC having fine talks with Trump.

They don't like him stupid. Or, they're surprised to see he's not as big of a dick as he plays on tv. Yes Bill Maher told us this is true.

Nothing wrong with removing tariffs on our stuff going overseas, that is as it should be. But assuming we shift to a zero-for-zero tariff policy, it could be that people in those countries won't buy our stuff anyway. If we don't buy it, why will they? Especially when you add it the shipping costs. Absent the tariffs on our stuff, it will be cheaper to buy but will it be cheap enough? I am not sure our export numbers will go up that much.

The flip side is now our tariffs on imports to us will go away, right? I.E., it'll be cheaper, right? So, which will go up more our exports or imports? My guess is, more imported stuff than exported so the trade imbalance gets worse not better.

Not necessarily.....there are alternatives to jobs being union and they work out quite well.

Trump didn't tell us last year things were gong to get really bad before they got better.
Ah, yes He did, at most of His campaign events.
We're at zero unemployment now.
It's 4.2% liar.
I remember you hated those union workers in the 2000's.
Jeez................woulda been kinda hard as I was a union representative from 1996 to 2004.
Isn't that why we sent those jobs away in the first place?
Greed for the most part.

It's going to be amusing to watch you on the left that have convinced yourselves that Trump's tariffs aren't going to work...come up with a new complaint when they do. I can't wait. Oh...and your posts you're doing now? They will be coming back to haunt you. Be forewarned!

Hilarious! If the majority of Americans polled clearly register their disapproval of your messiah, with economic empirical data as their basis, you need to concoct pretenses to invalidate all public surveys.

I understand your impotence in citing even a single poll that shows Trump's approval rising or support for his tariff perversion.

According to RealClearPolling’s average on that issue, every included poll taken since the start of April has Trump underwater on his handling of the economy, most of them by double-digits, with an average of 41.7 percent approval and 55.2 percent disapproval.
A recent Yahoo News poll has Trump at -14 on the economy, while the most recent Emerson poll has him at -12. The Economist/YouGov poll has Trump at -11, while CBS News has him at -16. Meanwhile, a CNN poll has Trump at -20 on the economy, which is the worst average for him in the survey.
Will the tariff uncertainty continue, or will deals be reached that enshrine some stability? And can Trump succeed in staving off a recession, which Wall Street is clearly still fearing at this point?

Even far left Hollywood doesn’t agree with you.
