Are Tariffs A Good Idea?

Everything they say is "oh, it's not good now, but he knows what he's doing", but does he? Doubtful.
Doubtful?

It's not doubtful, it's confirmed from his words, his actions, the people surrounding him, and a previous term as President that he has no fucking clue, and the people who support him know even less.

If you want to roll the dice on this stock market with that man in charge of the country, all I can say is good luck. I've already cashed out, and have 80% of my holdings in cash. I won't risk a greater ratio than 20%, knowing he can only affect half of that.

You don’t know the difference between inflation and high prices, so why should we take your seriously? Moreover we don’t even know what the inflation rate is from trumps first month in office,

A liberal ruler calls Trump a menie, because he is fixing to lose money he was getting. Screw him.
It is starting to look like the convict is looking for a dignified way "out" of his ridiculous tarrifs as of taday after seeing the effect on the markets.
Naturally he's got to figure out what kind of lie he can come up with to make his complete surrender look like some kind of victory for his clueless MAGAt cultists.
As soon as he gets that figured out look for him to announce he's made "a good deal" and these tarrifs won't be needed anymore.
So that's....
Trudeau, Sheinbaum, and rhe U.S.A. 1
Donald Trump 0

We have at least three cult members on this thread, I would love for any of them to expound on their economic reasoning of why these tariffs are beneficial.

Just three????

Talk to me in a couple months, when you're wrong.

I don't usually even bother to look at silly memes and videos when posted as replies. These are a ridiculous way to engage in conversation.
Basically the same as a sign advertising that you're just a dumb ass who has run out of responses.

These memes are actually how they get their "facts." It's no wonder they keep using them so often. Ever notice how they have no shortage of them? This is what they read all day long, as opposed to any kind of real journalism.

So find another supplier. Or use another welder brand made in america
Easier said than done. Lincoln and Miller are about as "American Made" as a manufacturer can get but even they get many of their components straight from China. Many other brands are 100% made in China. My hope is that this situation forces Lincoln and Miller to either have their components made in an America-friendly nation or right here in America. In the meantime, prices will continue to rise and welders will be forced to raise their rates to keep up.

But, like several others have said, costs in other areas of our economy should drop due to Trump's policies which will have a balancing effect.

Last year there was 43lbs of fentanyl going in the US from Canada. A lot more than that going the other way.
A good reason why Canada should want to secure the border.

A good meme can reflect a greater truth than a two page commentary in the NY Times.

For the most part, I'm a Trump supporter and am generally happy with the direction he's taking the country. It's too soon to know what the long term effects of his executive orders and policies will be but I'm very happy with DOGE and very happy with sending illegals back to their crapholes.

By the same token, I believe in transparency and calling a spade a spade. I started out by saying that "for the most part" I'm happy with Trump but everyone has their flaws and/or weaknesses. I'm still on the fence where Tariffs are concerned. I sell welding supplies, gases, and equipment for a living. I just received this message from Lincoln Electric (a major manufacturer of welding machines and filler metals):

How does a company which started up in Ohio end up importing so much stuff to be affected by tariffs? Maybe you could look into other brands to carry.

ITMT, Trump talked about the tariffs and it'll be rocky at first, but hopefully these other countries will see fit to trade more fairly sooner than later.

I'm more than happy to pay a little more for some things for a while if it helps my country in the long run.

You dont get to be the party that caused massive inflation, and then complain that Trump isnt fixing the damage that YOU caused fast enough. :cuckoo:
You don't get to be the supporter of a man who ran against Biden's inflation, unless he reduces inflation.

We're a full line supply house and are about a pro-American-made as you can get. American companies have been effected by Democrat policies over the years and have been forced to cut costs by buying components from giant sweatshops like China, Vietnam, etc.

I fully understand what Trump is doing and I, too, am tired other other nations taking advantage of America's generosity. And I hope that we see many long term benefits. But this thread is based on my personal perspective as someone who deals with blue collar welders and as a person who purchases supplies from many, different companies in my industry. I hope that the price hikes are a short term solution to the tariffs imposed on Communist China.

Well let’s see the inflation rate after he’s been in office for at least a month or so
