On Tuesday, we saw a sitting US President rallying up a mob in order to attempt a putsch against freedom and democracy in America. It was an attack on the heart of the institutions of freedom in the US.
Let's call it what it is: A far-right elite with President Trump at its top has been constantly bombarding their followers with fake news, propaganda and lies, using a huge far-right propaganda machine in order to do so, until they rioted against freedom, with the goal of overturning a free and fair election. And the Republican Party is totally in their pockets, enabling them. Their obvious goal is the establishment of a far-right tyranny, a dictatorship.
What does it say about the state of freedom and democracy in America, when one of the two parties no longer believes in freedom and democracy, and starts acting against it?
In Germany 1923, something very similar happened: A far-right mob rallied up in a beerhouse and started a putsch against the free and democratic government. Like this 2021 putsch attempt, it failed. But one of their leaders was young Adolf Hitler, who then was arrested and wrote his infamous "Mein Kampf" in prison. 9 years later, the free republic ended in Germany, when Adolf Hitler finally seized power.
Like now in America, Hitler and his far-right ilk was aided and enabled by a fake news propaganda machine, bombing the people with constant lies and fake news, the far-right Hugenberg company, which owned more than 50% of the media at that time.
How long will it take in America, until more than 200 years of freedom and democracy come to an end? Will Joe Biden be the last President governing over a free America? And what can freedom loving Americans do to prevent their country from falling into tyranny?
Because the situation is bleak: Trump may soon be gone. But the Republican Party will inherit his base of anti-freedom, anti-democracy followers, they will inherit a right-wing fake news machine and Trump's mob -- if the next Republican is just a bit more intelligent than Trump, he may well succeed in what Trump failed: The replacement of freedom with a dictatorship against the will of the people.
I'd say: If you believe in freedom, act quickly now. Trump and all his enablers must be prosecuted and tried mercilessly for high treason.
Don't try to reconcile with a far-right that no longer believes in the most basic American values. You cannot win people who no longer believe in reality. Show them the line they're crossing, with all power the free and democratic system can provide.
