It's now time to end the self-righteous commentary about "Democrat" cities.
Located in the shaft of the phallus-shaped Sunshine State, the tiny city in Marion County bills itself as a “city with small town charm.” Although the 5,569 residents barely qualify Belleview as a “city,” it fits the U.S. Census Bureau’s definition of “urban.” The city is 83% white and 14% Hispanic, with a poverty rate that is twice as high as the state’s. Because 92% of the city's residents were born in the U.S., deporting Belleview’s Hispanic residents wouldn’t help the poor whites. And, for some reason (DEI, probably), Belleview’s eight African-American residents have higher incomes and a lower unemployment rate than their white counterparts.
Belleview’s mayor, Christine Dobkowski, is a white Republican. The entire city council is white-presenting, along with every member of the county council. Florida’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, is the highest elected official in a state where Republican state legislators enjoy a veto-proof GOP majority. In the 2024 election, the city overwhelmingly voted for Donald Trump, catapulting the MAGA candidate to a 41-point lead over Kamala Harris. But, according to the 2024 FBI Uniform Crime Report, this white, Republican-controlled enclave has one proud distinction.
Belleview is the murder capital of America.
I know you’re thinking: “But what about Chicago?” Well, according to an arcane universal law known as “common sense,” cities with high populations tend to have more crime. When you adjust for population, the FBI statistics reveal that Belleview’s murder rate (102.02 murders and non-negligent homicides per 100,000 residents) is nearly six times higher than the third-largest city in the nation (17.47).
To be fair, murder is not an accurate judge of violence. Homicide rates are affected by factors like state gun laws and even the number of nearby emergency rooms. That’s why the FBI also counts violent crimes (murder, non-negligent homicides, rape, robbery, aggravated assault and “offenses that involve force or the threat of force”). And, while Chicago has a higher total number of violent crimes, it still ranks lower than white, Republican-run large cities like Shreveport, La. (17th in violent crime among cities with 100,000 residents). In fact, Chicago’s 540 violent crimes per 100,000 residents is 121st among large cities (populations higher than 100,000), making it far safer than hellholes like Salt Lake City, Utah (864 per 100,000), Lubbock, Texas (821 per 100,000), and Des Moines, Iowa (703 per 100,000).
But because most urban areas are not as white as Billings, Mont., (86% white, .9% Black, but 746 violent crimes per 100,000 residents), people who struggle with long division believe crime is exclusive to “Democrat-run cities.” Yet, somehow, these are the same people who use FBI per capita arrest data to perpetuate the nonsensical claim that 13% of the population (Black people) commit 50% of murders.

Are Democrat-Controlled Black Cities More Violent? Here's What the Data Says
According to conventional (racist) wisdom, Democrat-controlled, majority Black cities are being destroyed by violent crime. But is it true?
