To have doctors on TV saying “if we save one life all this is worth it” shows they think their audience is 7 years old.
We don’t live like that
Arenas are chock full of people who get others sick All THE Time. For eons. Try and deny that.
So we got something that we really can’t tell about just yet. Tons of might be or might not. And; all the flus take a while to figure out anyway.
So 70 dead and what’s ahead unknown . I don’t think there is a stated infection per exposure yet?
70 in 25 or so days and pneumonia 150 per day. Those pneumonia folks some how not important?
Kick it around

What is clear is that Corona Virus deaths have far more value than "regular" flu deaths, or Opioid deaths, or H1N1 deaths, pneumonia deaths, or...... The people who are dying of Wuhan Virus are typically old and/or have bad lungs or some other serious condition. That is the same population who die in much higher numbers of flu and pneumonia. Take reasonable precautions, and if you are old and frail stay home.

if you are old and frail stay home

Planning on staying home ... with close friends and supplies

35000 people in America die each year from Cirrhosis OTL and 135,000 from lung cancer.

Those deaths could be virtually eliminated if we outlawed booze and tobacco, but the libs need the tax money.

Why is it a great idea to cause tremendous hardship over this, but not over other diseases which cause a lot more deaths?

Because if we don’t do anything, the medical system will collapse due to the burden and we won’t be dealing with the hundreds of thousands of deaths from COVID-19 but also the unknowable deaths of people who need medical care and can’t get it.

"Are Corona deaths more important and why"

Because a Corona death costs more than a Budweiser death.

Flu deaths occur in approx. 0.1% of the cases. Plus, there is an expensive medical infrastructure to deal with the worst flu cases.

In Italy, the corona virus is deadly in around 7% of the cases.

One of the worst things about the corona virus is that you are contagious up to 5 or 6 days before any symptoms appear. Making the spreading of the virus much easier.

Also, the reasons we are closing businesses, large venue events and the like is because if we don't we will end up with the same situation as Italy has. Our medical system will be completely overwhelmed.

In south korea the death rate is .7%

the economic pain will be much worse than the chinese virus itself

So you want the government to outlaw booze and tobacco, is that what you are saying?

Not at all. I'm saying that the Liberals are hypocritical for making such a big deal about Coronavirus and the modest number of people getting killed, while ignoring greater number of deaths from other causes.

My own feeling is that we will all be assuming room temperature at some point down the line, so we should really be just cooling out.

Man a thread with 80% factual and technically correct responses
I will also add that “we don’t know...the worst may be yet to come” is Not a Valid reason to shut down America
