House Republicans Dangle Possible Vote on Epstein Files, After Voter Backlash

House Republicans, under pressure from Democrats and their own angry constituents, agreed on Thursday night to lay the groundwork for a potential vote calling on the Justice Department to release material from its investigation of the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, breaking with President Trump’s demand that supporters accept his administration’s handling of the case and move on.

The measure, a nonbinding resolution, has not been scheduled for a vote. It is unclear whether Republicans will ever bring it up, or whether it could muster the support to pass in the face of a deep G.O.P. divide over the Trump administration’s handling of the case of Mr. Epstein, who died by suicide in federal custody while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

This is very far from a revolt. More like a nudge to get the regime to do the right thing.

More importantly, it may be a sign that congressional Repubs, for the first time in a very long time, fear their constituents more than they do trump. Meaning they think trump has lost his iron grip on their hearts and minds.

All politicians do. Making a nation great though, doesn't. You see the dillema for some?

Not really. Surely you aren't operating under the delusion trump is doing anything but tearing the nation apart, are you?

He didnt allow 10M to enter you nation illegally in four years. He isn't responsible for all $37T of your debt and allowing China to eat your lunch. Wall Street is unfortunately more responsible for tearing America apart than Trunp is. They push hard for China as China needs to be confronted. Either America or China is going to win, period. I hate to break this to Americans but the reality is if you don't address the elephant in the room, we are all doomed. Trump deserves criticism at times but he is at least calling out the reality of Americas situation.

they said the same thing about the biden admin......you people have the same thoughts about each other....

Not clear about what you're saying. Do you mean Biden told the border patrol agents to stand down and let people cross the border without apprehending them?
If the people entering our nation were Europeans, you would be screaming to the rafters. There are differences from previous eras. One is Euros spoke different languages native to their home nation. most of the illegals speak Spanish or a variation of it even if from different nations in central and south America. The second is that most from Europe had an education and or trade to enter this nation and had a sponsor in our nation also. This is not spoken about. And it does not mean there are not great people coming in today. People coming here must assimilate. Must become Americans. There are people who are not doing that now.

Isn't it ironic that no demofk ever said that xiden has cognitive issues after the public already had. Fk, they still haven't, still parading that lost human out to embarrass himself. Who's the cult?

Well gosh, Berg! If The New York Times says it's so...then by golly...IT MUST BE!

The Main Stream Media is going full out "Russia...Russia...Russia!" on Epstein, desperately trying to shift attention from Trump's success with the border and the economy and even more desperately to shift attention away from the riots in liberally run areas and the Communist that is the Democrat's candidate for Mayor of New York.

What a silly thing to say. I agreed with Biden's EO raising the bar for those who qualify as asylum seekers. Because the US needed to make it clear to immigrants coming to the border that the criteria for entry on a temporary basis was much stricter. Not doing so earlier was a mistake on his part as were the lengths to which he went to overturn trump's inhumane policies.

But this thread is about whether congressional Repubs now see unconditional support for all things trump as a potential liability in the midterms.

ā€œThe effect of this resolution is much stronger than any of you had expected,ā€ said Representative Virginia Foxx of North Carolina, the Republican chairwoman of the Rules Committee, apparently suggesting that it had swayed Mr. Trump to authorize Ms. Bondi to release the testimony.

But the approval of the resolution by the Rules Committee, a panel dominated by Republicans and generally under the tight control of the speaker, reflected that widening tension between Mr. Trump, his base and Congress over the case of Mr. Epstein had reached a breaking point.

The measure calls on the Justice Department to make available within 30 days ā€œdocuments, records and communicationsā€ surrounding the investigation into Mr. Epstein, his death, and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Mr. Trump, who has long promoted conspiracy theories and used them to build his political movement, has urged his supporters to trust his administration’s conclusions and essentially tried to cast out those with continued questions over Mr. Epstein from his political base.

But Republicans in Congress, including Speaker Mike Johnson, have still called for the release of the Justice Department’s files about Mr. Epstein. And many hard-right lawmakers whose politics typically align closely with Mr. Trump said this week that their conservative voters had split from the president and were bombarding their offices with calls for greater transparency.

Get back to me when you can factually refute their reporting on this story.

Did you miss the part where Trump secured the border, Berg? Or where his threat of tariffs got better trade deals for the US? Did you not see where he managed to get a bill through Congress that kept the American people from being hit with the biggest tax increase in history?

Poor Berg...trying so hard to paint Trump as a failure and he just keeps on getting win...after win...after win! What are you going to do when he gets peace accords signed in the Middle East and between Russia and Ukraine? Complain that he plays too much golf?
