Given the isolationist mood in the US at the moment I thought it worth posing the question.
Is there any value on keeping alliamces ?
Can nations do it on their own ?
Is America or the world safe inder isolationist politics and why ?

We could do it. Were one of few nations that could. Unfortunately, we won’t.

George Washington's no permanent alliances.

Time to move on because Washington knew it was corrupting, and we see how corrupting it has become through Ukraine.

It's a two edged sword. Your enemies will have allies. If you're alone, they will ally against you. Smaller countries hardly have a choice. The Philippines has an escalated conflict with China right now. They will, of course, go with the U.S. and Japan. Even countries like Canada need to ally with a power like the U.S.

If you're just talking about the US, then I don't think we will become isolationist any time soon.

Since the 60's we are the worst ally you could ever have.

Before that .
WW2 .Patten was a mad man -- the real Patten , not the invented one .
The US joined the Korean war in 1950 .

The big question then is where did that technology come from ( a millenium worth in a decade) that encouraged America to become arrogant , patronising and the planet's number one Terrorist country ?
That is , not an ally that you wanted to ever trust if you did not do as told .

The Philippines has turned down an offer of assistance from the US and has made stronger ties with Japan.

We will see more and more of this as the US is no longer a reliable ally. The world is moving on, most here have not figured that out yet.

Madam Nhu and her Husband and Bother-in-Law were French Quislings who tried to impose Catholicism on a Buddhist Nation that really wanted to give Communism a go.

Not to say that America is a great ally, but we are willing to sacrifice blood and treasure to safeguard other countries, including hers, as futile as that was.

The Philippines are a unique case, because they have bad memories of American colonization. Not to mention, all their hot women keep trying to send themselves off as mail-order brides.

We did not do it to safeguard her country, we did it to stop the spread of the Red Menace, the same excuse we used to commit all sorts of illegal actions around the world.

They turned it down publicly.
